Rich already plan to avoid future taxes--ours return soon

$1.5 TRILLION in cuts to rich and corporations.
Inequality increases. No pay increases set for 2018. Tax cuts for workers expire in 2027 but biz subsidies continue and tax ‘pros’ are already exploiting the loopholes. “The Games They Will Play: Tax Games, Roadblocks, and Glitches Under the New Legislation” gives the wealthy strategies to lower their tax bill already. Once the bill is final, some provisions will begin in less than a month. The wealthy can switch income to a C-corporations and have “their income accrue in the form of corporate profits.” Others may create pass-through for lower rates. Eg: law firms could break themselves into multiple parts. If you have your own brand (Trump-branded stuff) you can have an entity for each product/service to cut taxes. All personal expenses (like Trump’s hairspray) will lower net income. Since Congress has cut back on IRS auditors, you can bet that many will skate by with questionable new ideas which are not illegal till the IRS tells you so. One CEO says we are being tricked by GOP and he is a Republican business owner.
Avoid future tax cut repeal to pay for lost revenue: https://www.amazon.com/Tax-Shelter-Americans/dp/1500426520

Will you and I pay for the GOP cuts?
Congress to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits next year (Ryan) in order to pay for the cuts. If the economy is already at high employment because of high growth, can the GOP cuts stimulate more growth or just inflation? Most companies said they will pay down their debt, buy back stock, buy other firms before they use cuts for growth. Capital spending was the LAST on their list. Are you going to spend your tax cut or just pay off your credit card? Or will you help out your seniors who have their SS benefits cut?  Middle class rate cut is repealed in 2027. Again those least able will foot the bill.

Whatever happens with the stock market tax-FREE is better
When you invest, whether 401k or IRA or in a brokerage account, allow the Miracle of Compounding to work on your money. Many employers offer Roth 401k or you can use a Roth IRA on your own. If those alternatives are not for you, consider holding individual stocks so your gains accrue with no annual taxes. If you use low-cost mutual funds in our accounts, you can increase your returns again. Tax-FREE and low-cost are the hallmarks of the smart investor following Warren Buffett’s advice. Over time, the DALBAR study found 11% for the market index and 3.79% for ‘professionally’ managed accounts.

Retirement plans at small businesses may be cancelled with GOP tax bill
24 million workers could lose their retirement if the "pass-through" tax rate proposal in tax reform legislation is not fixed. Tax incentives for small business owners may be lost if they offer retirement plans. GOP tax reform will result in many business owners paying a lower tax rate on pass-through income than on retirement plan withdrawals. The House bill includes a 25 percent rate for pass-through income and the Senate version results in a rate below 30 percent. Small business owners in high brackets with pass-through income would pay less tax by not making tax-deferred retirement plan contributions because plan withdrawals are taxed at ordinary rates. Avoid the higher tax rates later.

Are the alternatives to long-term care policies right for you?
The industry is moving to hybrid products—life insurance with LTC rider or annuity with LTC benefits. Advisors tend to offer life-based hybrids to younger, healthier clients who seem as if they can get through the life insurance underwriting process, and annuity-based hybrids to older clients with more health problems. Hybrids offer 2 benefits—if you don’t use LTC money, you or your heirs will use the money. In both cases you are paying premiums that include high commissions for sellers. Before committing to these solutions to longevity risk, consider your alternatives: https://www.amazon.com/Long-term-Care-Insurance-Updated-2013/dp/148274001X

Is a RoboAdvisor right for you?
Is your advisor smarter than the market?
With billions of people and Robos trading, are they smart enough or have insider information to beat all others? The market index up almost 19% this year: 19%! How did your advisor do? Over time, your advisor has changed securities and stories of winners so you have no idea how you did. Over time, the index averaged 11.06% vs 3.79% to equity investors. Ask your advisor to calculate your nominal return for the past 5 years. Check.

Are you sitting on a great muni bond portfolio?
GOP tax plans eliminate tax-exempt bond sales for advance refundings, a technique governments use to refinance tens of billions of dollars of debt each year. The House bill would also prevent businesses such as hospitals, airports and privately owned power companies from borrowing in the municipal market, where interest rates are lower. “We’ve been frustrated because we’ve all put in for a lot of bonds. But because there’s so much competition for the bonds, we’ve all gotten a fraction of what we’d hoped to get."
Investors are especially clamoring for higher-yielding tax-exempt hospital and airport securities, which would disappear after this year under the House bill. By scrapping the deduction for state and local income taxes, the tax ‘cuts’ would increase taxes on wealthy residents of states such as New York, California and New Jersey. That has led some analysts to predict that bonds from those states may outperform, since residents may look for new ways to drive down their federal tax bill.

What ever happened to the infrastructure bill to create jobs?
Trump asking states to raise taxes to pay for infrastructure after canceling SALT deductions. Take from the poor to give to the rich. Tax cuts for us are reversed in the future. Some of us in the blue states lose deductions and will pay more next year.

What is wrong with these self-righteous religionists?
Congressman asks for staff to have sex/baby for $5 million. Once you cross the line to consider yourself chosen by destiny (god) to be a powerful person—Congressman or Master of the Universe, you believe you can do no wrong to other human beings. Roy Moore ignored the law of the Supreme Court, he took advantage of the innocence of a child, he convinced thousands of women he was a man of their idolatrous religion. He thinks America was great when he and other Southerners could own and destroy human beings. Because they feel destiny or god is on their side, they can easily lie and cheat for the ‘holy’ cause—either abolition of abortions and homosexuality and behavior they don’t like. Trump favors ending the rule that religious organs are tax exempt as long as they don’t promote specific politics. Churches will fund candidates.
GOP has twisted this religious ideology to serve their political ends
US was the leader of the free world. Beacon on the hillAmerica now: banana republic

GOP promises cuts in middle class benefits soon
Trump says welfare reform will “take place right after taxes, very soon, very shortly after taxes.” Rubio said “we can make changes for future generations such as mine, and do so in a way that people can prepare for, so the changes will barely be felt.” Social Security trustee say as much as 23 percent of Social Security benefits and 14 percent of Medicare benefits could disappear by 2034 unless Congress acts.

Is your advisor a fortune teller?
Your advisor is a salesperson first and foremost. They would not have a job otherwise. Contrary to the Wall Street hype, your advisor has no special information. They are not a therapist/doctor curing your financial problem or sickness. Few sales people use the products they sell because of costs. The most successful Wall Street executives are NOT traders. They do NOT try to time the market. They have learned the lessons of the financial legends:

“The stock market is a device for transferring money from the                                   impatient to the patient.”      Warren Buffett

In fact, the average managed-account equity investor earned just 3.79% a year over 30 years! A simple index earned 11%. Buffett, perhaps the greatest investor of all time, with 60 years experience, boils down the stock market to patience.
Mr Buffett's strategy of patience is the most successful. He earns about 20% a year compounded over time. He does NOT buy and sell stocks frequently. In other words, he does the opposite of what Wall Street 'advises' us to do. Wall Street is a sales industry not an advice industry. Do we ask a barber if we need a haircut?

Don wants to reduce taxes on the rich to 15% while we pay 33%

Don’s new tax idea—let the rich pay 15% not 40% using LLCs
You need to open an LLC soon so you can push all your income from self-employment through it. Don has proposed to tax individuals’ income from partnerships, limited liability companies and other so-called “pass-through” business entities at a 15% rate. Currently, LLCs do not pay tax but pass the income to the owners. They pay at their rate up to 39.6%. This will help Don since he uses hundreds of LLCs to reduce taxes. All of his expenses go against revenue so he ends up paying ZERO, as he did in 1978-79. His 1978 income was negative $406,379. ZERO tax. The next year, it was negative $3.4 million. ZERO tax!
More than two-thirds of pass-through income flows to the top 1% of tax filers. Like Don they charge everything (hair stylist, wigs, sprays, etc) to the business. Don’s jets and choppers cost $500,000 for 3 months charged to his LLC businesses. The campaign paid for part of it. He made few deals this year so his tax bill should be NEGATIVE—ZERO taxes. We will probably have to pay him a tax refund. America’s Socialism for the Rich means they pay 15% and we pay 33%.

Best Robo-Advisor – Reach Your Goals automatically
The Ultimate Automatic Wealth Management account. Fidelity found that their client accounts that were most successful were those put on automatic—left alone—forgotten. “The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient.” Warren Buffett claims that his holding period is forever. He advocates compounding (allow earnings on earnings to grow exponentially): "My wealth has come from a combination of living in America, some lucky genes, and compound interest." Robo-advisors work because money does NOT trade, rebalance, market time, buy high-sell low or sector rotate. It compounds exponentially.

Are our cars eating up our retirement nest eggs?
Edmunds.com found the average loan price for a new vehicle was $33,352. That makes the average payment $503 a month over 68 months! Since compound investing is NOT taught in our schools, we didn’t learn cars can cost us a $1 million retirement fund. How? Check it out:http://www.moneychimp.com/calculator/compound_interest_calculator.htm. $500 X 12= $6,000 annual addition, 30 years, 10% interest rate, 12 times compounding. If you begin late—age 40 or 45—you can still accumulate $1 million. You’ll need it. Retirement may go on for 30 years after you stop working. A special IRS account lets you spend it all too.
Use your Tax Shelter for Tax-FREE income: https://www.amazon.com/Tax-Shelter-Americans/dp/1500426520

How does muni bond interest (tax-FREE) increase my Medicare charge?
To keep the wealthy from getting another free ride, Municipal Bond income is included n your modified adjusted gross income. If your MAGI is below $85,000 (or $170,000 for couples filing jointly), you pay $121.80 each month for Part B. As your MAGI goes up, so does your payment, which tops out at $389.80 for individuals with MAGI of $214,000 (or $428,000 for couples filing jointly). Your MAGI is used to figure other tax breaks too. When your income goes up, so does the taxable portion of your Social Security benefits. Up to 85% of your SS benefits may be taxes by the Fed. Some states tax it too.
Your Tax-FREE account can lower all your taxes: https://www.amazon.com/Pay-No-Taxes-Retirement-legally/dp/1507527977

GOP to reinstate anti-black anti-minority voter laws
Gov McCrory wants to reinstate North Carolina’s voter ID law despite court finding it “passed with racially discriminatory intent.” Other states have faced similar court rulings over voter restrictions, as courts have blocked or weakened laws in Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kansas and North Dakota recently. The courts found that GOP laws reduced the number of early-voting days and changed registration procedures in ways meant to harm blacks. Trump recently told supporters to stop people who they see voting 10 times. “I’ve heard a lot of bad things.” Voter fraud has never been proven in any state election site in decades. GOP and Don are using this as tactic to reduce Dems. Scaring voters with his immigrants are rapist talk would not reduce terrorists since most are from USA. Don would probably fail the naturalization test since he does not read. The Gold Star father challenged Don to take the test with him. Don and wives might fail.

Time to install single-payer health care?
Aetna is the third major insurer to pull out of the money-losing ObamaCare. Perhaps America can’t afford to have for-profit health care. We like some of ObamaCare benefits like affordable, acceptance, comprehensive, free screening, and preventive care. Extending Medicare Medicaid would not require a new bureaucracy. Medicare Advantage works for over 12 million seniors using local providers. Private insurers will want higher profits and will continue to determine how much medical treatments I can receive. It’s the perfect conflict of interest: they decide my health care—less for me equals more for them. You must become an expert in health to buy the right policy now.

Why life insurance is NOT a safe legacy for heirs
Agents selling life insurance make the case that if you pay all this money during your lifetime, your heirs will get the benefit when you die. But insurers have a trick. When you die, even after you have had to pay more premiums for low interest rates, they don’t have to pay the death benefit. If your heir does not make a claim insurers don’t pay. Either you pay for a lawyer to remember to file the claim or you switch to the alternative to life insurance. The most well known insurers have kept $ Billions in premiums and benefits. Your heir may never get the death benefit. 60 Minutes exposes this legal ‘crime.’

Don’s Apology: “Sometimes in the heat of debate, and speaking on a multitude of issues,     you don't choose the right words or you say the wrong thing. I have done that."

Tim:    "I trust Hillary Clinton with our son's life."

Regulators are the only protection we have since we can’t sue anymore
“It is nearly impossible for one individual to take on a corporation with vast resources.” (GOP bill requires impossible: every person in class action suffer “same type and scope of injury”)
Supremes stop us from suing—State courts no longer available to sue corporations!

Pfizer leaves US with their tax bill

Another tax evader has gone overseas—Pfizer, NYC > Belfast
Pfizer and Allergan will join in a $160 billion deal to create the world's largest drugmaker. It's the largest so-called inversion in history, a tax-saving maneuver in which a U.S. company reorganizes in a country with a lower corporate tax rate. U.S. efforts to curb the practice have so far proven ineffectual. Botox maker Allergan is based in Ireland but runs much of its operations out of New Jersey.
You can’t get away with claiming you live in Ireland to cut taxes but …

Wealthy Americans are buying their way into ‘Citizen of the World’ status—low taxes
“Global citizenship” is becoming an increasingly popular tool for the world’s ultra wealthy. There are many different reasons why an ultra-high-net-worth individuals—min. $30 million—buy second citizenship, including stability, security, tax efficiency, ease of travel, higher standard of living, increased options for education and investment. The easy way is to buy a luxury villa—citizenship no charge. The annual savings in capital gains tax alone could reach $1 million. Villas and citizenship cost as little as $500,000.

Tax evaders may lose passport=can’t get to tax havens
Yes, your gov may finally be doing something to get tax evaders to pay up. “I’d encourage U.S. people abroad… To make sure that their fiscal matters are in compliant and purchase by the New Year,” he explained.

Women worry about retirement for good reason
More women are concerned about their ability to retire than men, according to the Insured Retirement Institute (IRI). More than half of women (54 percent) are very concerned they will not be able to retire when they want and an almost equal number (53 percent) are concerned about being able to afford the lifestyle they want. Women earn less than men in same job and interrupt career investing to have a family.

Are municipal bonds (tax-free) right for you?
Buying bonds for tax-FREE income (interest) sounds good but beware. One Muni Bond Trade Can Cost $1,500 More Than You Realize. Brokers buy bonds cheap and sell them at a big profit when there is demand for them. You don’t know what the market price is so you may be gauged. That extra cost may destroy your tax advantage. “A year’s worth of interest can be wiped away simply by buying or selling a bond,” Securities and Exchange Commission commissioner Michael Piwowar said in a telephone interview. “People should know what they’re paying.” But isn’t that what you pay your broker for? No. Brokers work for profit-making firms and like real estate brokers; they are NOT on your side. This is why the fiduciary rule is so important and why the industry is fighting it so hard. Doing what is right for you is what regulators want brokers to do at least for retirement accounts. Paying an advisor a fee may get you a fairly priced muni but most people should use the not-for-profit management firms, TIAA or Vanguard: http://www.amazon.com/Forget-Wall-Street-Non-Profit-investment/dp/1519125720

Is a secure Retirement right for you?
Fears about Social Security, health care and retirement funds top the list of worries that U.S. households have, Hearts & Wallets says. Fewer people believe they are on track for building their retirement nest egg with the percentage dropping from 36 percent last year to 31 percent this year, the study says. There’s no one-size-fits-all advice for workers on post-retirement spending, another new study says. While 54.1 percent of retirees spent less or the same in the first two years after work, 45.9 percent spent more.
And of those spending more, 28 percent upped their outlays by 20 percent or more annually. It might be tempting to think the splurges are limited to the wealthy who can afford to travel to exotic locales, but the researchers found the spending increases occur across all income levels. The number of Americans spending more than they did while they were working declines by about a quarter by the sixth year of retirement. Some took 6% a year from principal not the 4% old advisory story.

Some employers force workers to take risky 401k options
At Intel you may be forced to invest in hedge funds and private placements with high fees and low returns. Management decides which options employees have and they may be limited to high-fee funds. You can reach retirement goals of $1 million by using your brain and guts as this 29 year old did or use the low-cost Buffett strategy: http://www.amazon.com/Warren-Buffetts-Investment-Strategy-Forget/dp/1484822900

Schwab moves to offer mutual funds starting at just $100
Schwab has lowered the minimum initial investment for most mutual funds on its zero-transaction-fee Mutual Fund OneSource platform to $100, dropping the minimum for subsequent investments to $1. There are fees for redemption and broker services. Certain conditions apply. Schwab now offers the largest selection of funds available at a $100 minimum, allowing investors an easier path toward long-term savings and simplified options for diversification, the company said. Earn more, pay less.

Is democratic socialism right for you?
Your gov will pay you your pension if your company went out of business before paying you your pension money. PBGC pays nearly $6Billions in benefits to retirees. If you are receiving benefits, it is a ‘socialist’ program.
If you are over age 65 or poor, you are receiving medical benefits. That is ‘socialism.’

New companies don’t have unions but they pay lobbyists to guide our ‘Reps’
Today’s tech companies — even the youngest ones — have accepted lobbying as an essential part of doing business. In addition to knowing the language of computer code, founders are speaking the language of Washington—lobbying—so they win the regulatory battles. Internet companies have tripled their lobbying spending. Uber and Hello Alfred for example, outsource labor and almost all expenses so they don’t have anything to slow meteoric profits for investors.

HOW CONGRESS WASTES OUR TAX DOLLARS
Special Inspector General John F. Sopko has spent years documenting waste, fraud and abuse in the U.S. military’s efforts to rebuild war-torn Afghanistan. We have spent $110 billion on reconstruction projects in Afghanistan. When adjusted for inflation, that total exceeds the value of the entire Marshall Plan effort to rebuild Western Europe, WWII.
=More than $8 billion in spending on counter-narcotics efforts in Afghanistan that have “failed by every conceivable metric. Afgans grow poppies like we grow corn.
=The purchase of nearly $500 million worth of airplanes that never could fly and had to be turned into scrap.
=Construction of a building that literally began to melt when it rained.

BioTerror detectors in every US city--$1Billion--not working!
The nation’s main defense against biological terrorism -- a $1-billion network of air samplers in cities across the country -- cannot be counted on to detect an attack, according to a new report by the Government Accountability Office.

Pentagon says pilots decided to hit hospital killing 30 after given bad coordinates
The Oct. 3 airstrike lasted more than an hour, killed at least 30 people, mostly doctors and patients and collapsed large parts of the hospital. Bomber’s computer with hospital GPS ID was not working. Pilots failed to confirm correct target by radio. US ignored hospital pleas to break attack and failed to use GPS location for target. Actual target was nearby and looked similar pilots claim. War crime suspected.

We pay bounty for contractors to run terrorist drones
Air Force has turned to civilian contractors to fly MQ-9 Reaper drones in "combat air patrols" to help track suspected militants. The civilians aren't supposed to pinpoint targets with lasers or fire missiles but we have skirted around the rules before. Mercenary fighters have provoked more wars in the past. Any civilian who is involved in waging such warfare would lose legal immunity under the law of armed conflict and could face prosecution by a foreign country, says Steven Ratner, a professor at the University of Michigan Law School.

Financial power in the 21st century

Financial power for the 21st century

Will you have enough in retirement? Now is the time to find out.

You could have about $250,000 extra to supplement your Social Security benefits in about 15 years. Will You Have Enough? takes you through the process of determining how much you will have. Law Steeple has been an industry executive for over 20 years.

Seniors are the target of scammers—“That is where the money is”

Nearly 60% of the respondents — all professionals who work with the elderly — to an online survey conducted by Investor Protection Trust said that they deal with elderly victims of investment fraud “quite often” or “somewhat often.” Nearly every one of the 763 participants in the survey said that the problem of financial exploitation of the elderly is “very serious” or “somewhat serious” and 84% said it was getting “much worse” or “somewhat worse.” The survey by the nonprofit included 76 state securities regulators and 77 financial planners, in addition to medical professionals. Members have solved that problem: http://www.amazon.com/Wealth-Without-Wall-Street-Commissions/dp/1442168137

CA insurer manipulated system to get rid of sick? This is RomneyCare?

Blue Shield has used enormous rate hikes, and the threat of rate increases, to force patients into lower-benefit and higher-deductible health coverage in violation of state law. BS gamed the system by alternately closing older policies and opening new ones in order to push older, sicker consumers who are more expensive to insure into lower benefit, higher deductible coverage that requires consumers to pay more out of pocket.

The lawsuit seeks to stop Blue Shield from shoving its policyholders into what is known as a "Death Spiral"–the industry term for what happens when a health insurer "closes" certain insurance policies to new customers, and later raises rates to those remaining in the closed policy until those enrollees can no longer afford coverage. "Blue Shield closed my family's policy and then threatened us with a 23% premium increase. We had no choice but to switch to the only bare bones policy Blue Shield offered us. When Blue Shield canceled the original rate increase, the company refused to let us transfer back into our old, higher benefit policy. Then, Blue Shield raised the rate of our bare bones policy by 14.8%!" said Robert Martin of Gilroy, litigant.

Middle class can’t sustain American economy—Rich take more income!

The average American family saw their net worth drop 40% in that three-year time period from $126,400 to $77,300. Three-quarters of the loss, not surprisingly, is due in large part to falling home prices, which have seen no reprieve since the housing bubble began to burst in 2007. The average homeowner saw their net worth fall more than $70,000 from roughly $250,000 in 2007 to $175,000 in 2010. But what is surprising is the fact that overall net worth has fallen to levels not seen since the early 1990's, long before the housing bubble even began. In three years, 18 years of savings have been wiped away for the majority of the country and at the same time wages have fallen. The average income fell from about $50,000 in 2010 to $46,000 in 2007.

But this negative trend does not stop there. As average families become poorer, rich Americans are growing richer. The Fed survey showed the wealthiest 10% of families actually saw their net worth rise from 2007 to 2010. Over that time period, their net worth increased from $1.17 million to $1.19 million. http://www.federalreserve.gov/pubs/bulletin/2012/pdf/scf12.pdf

Where have all the job-creators gone with their Bush tax cuts?

The continued decline of the American middle class and the ascent of the rich has resulted in income inequality at levels not seen since the Great Depression. While the bulk of consumer spending has historically come from the middle class, if the majority of Americans continue to suffer from falling wages and income, eventually something has got to give. There is no possible way for the super-rich to buy enough stuff to float the entire U.S. economy.

It's growing increasingly clear that we live in drastic times and drastic measures must be taken to save the country's middle class. One drastic measure is that more Americans are putting off retirement because they simply can't afford it.

But with Americans living longer and putting increased strain on programs like Social Security and Medicare, the retirement age is going to have to be raised for one reason or another.

Insurers give back premiums

Health insurers are expected to rebate $1.3 billion in premium charges to employers and consumers by August because the companies didn't spend enough on customer coverage in 2011. "This study shows that asking insurance companies to put more of their premium dollar toward patient care rather than administration and profits is not only popular but also effective. There are tangible benefits for consumers and employers," said Drew Altman, Kaiser Foundation president and CEO.

Insurers and employers say they will continue with reforms despite Supremes’ political decisions

Some insurers will continue to offer important health care insurance protections that were included in the 2010 health care reform law, no matter how the U.S. Supreme Court rules in cases currently pending before the Court. For instance, there are 7 millions of young on their parents’ insurance because they have no affordable coverage. The GOP may force them off and raise the uninsured to over 50 millions. “Fewer Americans would need to remain on their parents’health insurance if they had stable, full-time work,” GOP DeMint wrote. Yes, the point is they don’t.  http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-06-08/health-law-adds-6-dot-6-million-young-adults-to-parents-u-dot-s-dot

Socialism for the rich—Hungry will have to rely on charity

A New York senator will try to cut $4.5 billion from the nation's publicly subsidized crop insurance program to preserve spending on the nation's food stamp program.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., will offer an amendment to the new farm bill that the Senate could vote on as early as Tuesday. The farm bill, which is of particular importance in Minnesota and other Farm Belt states, contains an expansion of the crop insurance program designed to make up for the elimination of direct payments to farmers.

Gillibrand said on Monday that the Congressional Budget Office has estimated that food stamp cuts currently in the farm bill would take away an average of $90 per month in payments to nearly half a million households.

Two of our “friends” helping Iran evade sanctions by giving insurance and we let them!

Indian state-owned refiners will halt planned oil imports of 173,000 barrels per day from Iran when European sanctions take effect in July, unless the government permits them to use insurance and freight arranged by Tehran, industry sources said. Japan's cabinet ministers approved and submitted a special bill to parliament on Monday to enable the government to provide insurance cover for Iranian crude imports once a European Union ban on insurance and reinsurance takes effect on July 1.

Will States need a bailout next?

Banks cash-in on their own failed products. New York State, for one, has paid $243 million in recent years to extricate itself from swaps-related debt. That money went straight from taxpayers’ pockets to Wall Street.

Corporations rarely do deals like these, because they generally avoid making long-term bets on interest rates. But bankers sold the idea to public borrowers. The total bill to terminate all of these swaps-related deals would run into many billions.

Insurers low-ball your claim by changing settlement software program

A newly released report by a former Allstate Corp. claims executive working at a consumer rights group alleges that most of the nation's biggest insurance companies use computer systems that can be manipulated to underpay injury claims.

The report was issued Monday by the Consumer Federation of America, whose claims project director, Mark Romano, had worked for the Northbrook-based insurer, as well as CNA and Hanover. Romano last year joined the Consumer Federation of America as claims project director.

"This report is a wake-up call for consumers and regulators who are not aware of the many ways that computer claims' software can be manipulated to produce unjustifiably low injury payments to consumers and tens of millions of dollars in illegitimate 'savings' for insurers," Romano said in a statement.
