Employer quit matching your 401k?

Employer quit matching your 401k?
OK. Now you have to decide whether you will continue the contribution rate when they did match. Stocks are a bargain so they will compound faster over time. This is a time when it counts more that before the virus recession because stocks are on sale—average 20% off. Your best option is a tax-deferred IRA. You can open one anywhere but the larger fund companies have the lowest cost—0.04%. Your individual IRA acts like a 40lk: reduce income now. You can have the trustee take up to $6,000 from your checking account automatically. You control the amount and the costs as the market swings back to its growth mode. You will automatically gain 20% and as time passes; your compound interest will supercharge the growth. Over the next 25 years, your monthly contributions of $250 could become $400,000. And because you use a low-cost market fund, you avoid giving up 63% of your total potential accumulations.

Congress people benefit from advance on virus recession
GA GOP Kelly Loeffler said she wouldn’t do anything different despite her moves looking like insider trading based on the virus recession of 2020. Her stock sales show they add up to $1.8 million profit on the C-19 market fall. The stocks sold have lost a 1/3 of their value, meaning the couple avoided taking a big hit on them. Under Trump’s new rules, they may end up paying no capital gains on their jackpot. Her husband Jeffrey Sprecher is a regular gambler in the markets. Other insider-trading kingpins include Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) who claimed his winnings by selling $1.7 million in stocks just in time, while assuring the public that the U.S. was well positioned to withstand a pandemic. As the head of the intelligence committee, Burr has access to the government’s most highly classified information about threats to America’s security. His committee was receiving daily coronavirus briefings around this time, according to a Reuters story. There are many more Congress people engaged in illegal (for us) trading. Only one was caught and he gets home time not jail time. As you can imagine they are not held accountable since they write the exceptions to the laws.

Suggestion list: What to do with your $1200
Hold on to it for essentials as the future is unknown. If you must have cash to buy an essential down the line, you have it. Doctors, landlords, lenders, utilities can wait—they have reserves and access to federal lending programs we don’t have. Many states are making evictions and shutoffs illegal. If you have been laid off, explore your health care options. Trump says he will pay hospitals for C-19 care but what if you break a leg running your part-time business or fighting to get into the grocery store. Use some of your money to start/expand a hobby. People need something to do at home so offer your hobby/book/toys/etc over Amazon eBay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc sales process. You may be allowed a tag sale in your front yard as long as you have 6 feet lines on ground. Better yet use Craig list. I sold an attic house fan that way once. Never take anything on the internet for truth without verify first. I go to 3 other sources before I click. My garden center sent me an email offer with link to see details. I emailed them directly and they confirmed it was a scam/phishing from theft of their email list. Explore your situation. Ask your employer for help: vacation pay; forward sick time, etc. Ask your vendor for a couple of months wait in writing.
Gov resources to help deal with virus recession:

Is your income down in 2020?
You are only working half the hours? Is your stimulus check paying for essentials and that is all the income you expect this year? If you expect to have less income this year, you can increase your take home pay by telling your employer to reduce the fed and state amounts for withholding for the rest of the year. Use IRS form W-4 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw4.pdf to compute your withholding amount. Ask your employer to help you figure out the form since it was made more complicated last year. Even if you don’t have enough taken out this year, you will not be penalized next year since the penalty does not begin until you owe over $1,000. You need the money more than the government since they can print it and you can’t.

And you wonder why your fees are so high?
Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, after giving himself a raise in 2019 to $27.5 million, decided to buy two (2) Gulfstreams for $75 million each. A spokeswoman for Goldman said the purchase of the planes would save it money. Right, Father Christmas! Solomon will be at the Fed window taking the forgivable federal loans. The program was for critical aid to small businesses, including some advisors, who need the assistance to stay in business during the COVID-19 crisis. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin told Fox Business that the loans should be able to cover about 50% of the private workforce. Goldman could have covered their workers but Solomon already spent the firm’s money. You could switch your accounts to low-cost Vanguard as many others are doing: $48.5 billion--more than four times its nearest competitor, BlackRock. Tell David NO.

Do any of the virus bailout firms pay income taxes?
Boeing hasn’t paid taxes in years. They get guaranteed loans every year from ExIm bank. Recently they got $64 Billion from us. They got $13 Billion from state/local subsidies on top of the federal subsidies. Our taxes are still paying off these gifts. Other top welfare state firms include Nike, GM, Fiat, Ford, etc. Cruise lines don’t pay. Trump’s various businesses don’t pay. He personally deducted almost $1 Billion in losses which were carried forward for years. Rich people don’t pay taxes since they claim their income is from outside America. Yet they take most of the bailout money we will be paying off for the next 100 years. The real wealth is held by private equity owners and they don’t pay.

Most of us know we need financial planning but …
A study shows most of us trust ourselves—not advisors—for financial advice. We are smart enough to realize advisors are in it for the money. They want to be rich, not right. Since advisors can’t be right all the time about falling markets and when and where to invest, we take our own advice. So are we all currently in a panic? Most of us are happy to have a job. We are not gamblers. So who is causing these daily swings? So called Wall Street gurus—money managers who earn in the $ millions from our fees, want to richer so they must trade every minute. They try to escape a falling market so they can ride the ‘upside.’ However, as Bogle, Buffett and other students of success have taught, there is only investing over time and gambling. It is the gamblers who create the volatility. Some win their bets and others lose; just as it has been for all time.

Why file your taxes by April 15?
If you have refund, waiting gets you nothing. Could the IRS run out of money? Could gov computers make a mistake after April 15 because they did not get the email about extension to July 15? Is it possible there will be big delays since all the IRS and check printers are out of the office now in virus lockout? Just to avoid all the bad stuff, file now. Check your state for deadline. The federal and state filing can cost you nothing at https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/. Another site has no cost or restrictions: https://www.creditkarma.com/tax. And remember you can usually reduce income and thus tax by making a deductible contribution to your IRA. File now for refund: 90 day interest-free extension if you owe. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/n-20-18.pdf

New tax avoidance plans

New tax avoidance plans for the wealthy
The best and brightest have a new way for you to avoid your fair share: insurance. Thanks to our reps in DC, it is one of the few products that lets you grow your legacy tax FREE and give your family a big seed fund FREE. Now you can avoid estate tax too with a special trust. Insurance dedicated funds are great for advisors too—big fee; no redemptions. You buy a private-placement life-insurance policy. The insurer invests in alternative assets such as hedge funds. Profits are not taxed because of certain restrictions. Beneficiaries get money when you die. You can’t pick the funds but no one can know how your account is doing either. No tax on the growth or legacy means you can distance yourself from most American’s net worth even more. Your advisor does well also. Our reps and lobbyists made this loophole and they could fix it too.

Who benefits from TrumpCare bill?
1%--40% of 1Trillion tax cuts go to top 1% and increases deficit immediately.
Trump tax windfall is retroactive to Jan 2017 for $250,000 or more incomes.
Insurers—create “sham” coverage policies: pay less; get less. No penalty on CEO pay.
Trump promised: target pharmaceutical companies over drug prices Jan 2016
Congress gets to keep ObamaCare coverage and 10 essentials and preexisting.
Seniors—pay up to 5 times more for less care. Nursing homes will expel middleclass.
Trump said: “lower numbers, much lower deductibles” Jan 2017
Disabled—Medicaid cut $600 billion so states will have to send disabled back to ERs.
Medicaid cuts start 2021 so Congress does not need to deal with the crisis!
Working poor—tax credit not cover cost of private market policy since most don’t pay taxes. Very little of state block grants will go to subsidizing coverage for Trump voters.
AZ gives us prelude to what happens to you when Medicaid cut: people die.
Trump: "I am going to take care of everybody. I don't care if it costs me votes or not," Trump said. “The government's gonna pay for it." Jan 2016  $3 million tax credit.
Most Americans don’t even know TrumpCare will change their lives dramatically. Maybe GOP wants TrumpCare to fail since mandate is GOP idea. Most Reps must vote party or lose seat next election from Koch money. AMA says NO: do no harm
Congress people KNOW these bills are bad for most Americans because they exempt selves:
Wealthy tax credit: $3 million per each uninsured death if passed

Can your investment plan carry you to age 100?
Every year you delay costs you $100,000 later
Attitude and genes have everything to do with living longer. Many retirees work past our assumed “retirement” age. Many work because they love it; others because they have to. Most realize our early-in-life choices determine our financial fitness for the future.
Example: invest just 10% from your first job onward and you will have enough later. A low-cost stock index fund has grown at 11% over time so your money doubles every 8-10 years IF you leave it alone to compound.
You can use an IRS-approved trust that makes all your earnings FREE of income tax for the rest of your life. Social Security will cut benefits by 2034 and income taxes will have to pay for the deficit of $161,000 each. Taxes don’t go down for us. Only the rich can afford to cut their taxes by living off capital. You can die without ObamaCare.

Wealthy Koch network plans to buy elections with $400 billion
The end of the environmental protection, Medicaid, Medicare and federal safety net when we get sick or get old are the goals of the “killer” network. They will spend $400 billion to buy our elections and push their agenda—tax cuts for the rich and the end of regulations that protect us from accidents and environment devastation. Koch and their friends will continue to take federal and state subsidies for their coal and oil operations as they pollute our future water and health. Koch uses religious themes to help seduce evangelical partners like Trump lawyer Sekulow’s CASE. Koch drove KS to near bankruptcy with their no tax for business plan and want to do the same to America.

Is your advisor providing you with accurate information?
The number one reason investors pay advisors more than they need to is ADVICE. Yet 35 percent of investors are not confident the information they receive is reliable. 41% say they either are not provided with core information about performance or they do not know if they are provided with all information. Investors are paying for a pig in a poke. There is good reason we don’t trust financial information. Wall Street hides the facts and regulators let it happen—they get paid. Things are changing finally. Vanguard, the low-cost pioneer, has made it easier to see total costs clearly. People want info: simple and readable. Bogle, the founder, created transparency by eliminating the middleman. Vanguard funds are owned by us investors; not Wall Street gurus. All costs (fees, commissions, loads, charges, and trading) are listed on the first page. You don’t need a broker or advisor. In fact, their fees etc could take up to 63% of your money over time. If you are invested for the long-term in a market index, you will earn the historical return of about 11% not the managed rate of 3.79%. When your advisor tells you that they can get a better rate, ask for proof. 90-95% of managed funds earn less. Costs are the best predictor of success—low cost means we keep more. Remember, when your advisor moves you out of the total market: 3 market days account for 95% of annual market gains—trading is dangerous to you; not them. The best trick is when they cherry pick the dates to compare to a benchmark or use start up fund returns.

10 highest rated and lowest rated cars of 2017
Consumer Reports says Toyota iA is rare in that it’s a safe, reliable, fun-to-drive entry-level car. It’s also CR’s highest-rated subcompact. The Cruze is the best-selling Chevy car in the world. Prius and Miata best in class. Kia Optima with fewest problems. Impala is the modern version of the classic highway cruiser. Top small SUV is Forester; large is Toyota Highlander. The Audi Q7 beat Tesla S. Finally, the Honda Ridgeline is just right.            On the other end, we have the 10 worst: Mitsubishi’s subcompact Mirage, Mitsubishi MiEV, Fiat 500L, Chrysler 200, Toyota Tacoma, Dodge Journey, Mercedes CLA, Maserati Ghibli, Rover Discovery Sport, and Cadillac Escalade.

Trump can create jobs if he wanted to
After Trump promised to save jobs and Carrier got $7 million from IN, the jobs are going to Mexico. Same story at Boeing where Trump boasted about saving jobs: Five months ago at a Boeing factory in South Carolina, President Trump proclaimed, “We are going to fight for every last American job.” On Thursday, workers at the North Charleston plant learned they’d soon face layoffs. Boeing on Friday issued 429 new layoff notices to union members in Washington State. 12,000 jobs went overseas since The Don took over. In this economy, change is the only constant. Business can’t be forced to keep $25 an hour jobs when $3 overseas. Jobs are created when new tech provides whole new markets to blossom. Electric cars /appliances are the future and they need batteries not more oil.
Despite putting money in coal jobs and canceling the Paris accord to reduce warming, Trump ignores jobs created in renewables—solar, battery, wind. As sea levels rise, jobs in coastal infrastructure are needed. The Don should be encouraging the growth trends: jobs with the highest growth between 2014 - 2024. Not all need a college education. Yet he cuts the retraining programs in coal country and around the nation.

Robo-advisor helps you earn more

Robo-advisor help wealthiest cut fees—earn more
“Our research consistently shows that robo-advisors are becoming increasingly accepted by wealthy investors,” said Spectrem. “To remain competitive, traditional advisors should lead with their unique expertise in establishing a financial plan and emphasize their ability to evaluate and react to world events.” But advisors like MorganStanley want fees from ETF indexes so client fees double—advisor plus index manager. Among the robo-users, almost half were directed to use digital advice by a human financial advisor. Just 13 percent reported using a robo as their primary advisor. While 41 percent of robo-users were self-directed investors, a larger portion, 43 percent, described themselves “event-driven”—likely to seek professional advice for specific needs like saving for retirement or asset allocation. But advisors with fees still can’t foretell the future.

Why do hedge fund investors earn only 3.3%?
After you read this story about hedge fund expenses you will be glad you stick with low-cost index and managed funds. The “masters of the universe” have charged investors for everything under the sun—personal expenses too. Fees start with 2% ongoing plus part of the returns so instead of earning 10-12% like many stock index funds, hedgers get 3.3%. Yes you could have earned more but smart investors are learning that you can’t bank “could have earned.” There may be some social prestige in saying that “________ manages my money” but those who know the real situation know hedgers are really losing money. Opportunity costs are what economists call the real price of hedge fund losses. Smart investors know what they know. Managers cannot beat the market over time. Eventually using borrowed money to increase returns will bite back the returns.

'It's made in Vietnam!'
At inauguration, supporters are shocked by the maker of red Trump hats. Trump has been trumpeting "buy American and hire American."
Can you take The Don at his word? Is his word as good as his contract?
The Don has made a lot of promises that the GOP Congress may not want to keep. The Don's lieutenants are billionaires who know how to make the financial industry work for their best interests not ours. Half of our “representatives” are millionaires and have never had to find a better-paying job, affordable health care or child day care. We taxpayers provide them with the best health care and child care. They don't need the ObamaCare premium tax credit to afford basic coverage. They have never had to fight their insurer to get a needed procedure. They spend over 50% of their time collecting money from the wealthy who pay for their expenses.
They have never had to be protected from the fee-hungry financial services industry. We taxpayers provide them with the best low-fee ($0.29 per $1000) savings and investment plan in the world—the Thrift Savings Plan. Most have tax-advantaged accounts and overseas tax shelters. They don't need the Obama Fiduciary Rule to make sure the industry does not take up to 63% of their total potential retirement fund in fees.
The Congress wants to cut our Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid assistance. There is no Constitutional mandate to cut benefits if the funds we paid in for 30 or 40 years are not enough to cover the increases in our cost of living. They pay cost overruns for all the other programs all the time. The Congress does not rely on these benefits themselves since we pay Congress even after they leave office. They have millions and still get a pension. The Congress may not provide funds to rebuild our bridges, roads and other infrastructures if they waste it on The Wall. The high-paying jobs that we want back may have been made obsolete by technology.
It's up to us to prosper despite The Don's 'economy' for the rich.

Is life insurance on a child’s life right for you?
I get this question all the time because one of the insurance companies seems to have saturated the world with the simple app and brochure. It has a child’s picture with “Grow-Up Plan” message. It says the plan’s coverage doubles to $10,000 during age 18 with no increase in premium. Sounds good BUT what are you really doing? First, very few kids die young and collecting will be the last thing on a parent’s mind. Second, the amount of coverage that you are guaranteeing is tiny and the cash value growth will be miniscule. Third, as an adult, your child can buy a lot more coverage for far less than this plan even if they are in poor health. They could obtain $500,000 for $13 a month not $70 or more it costs for the $350,000 child policy. Actually you can buy better protection for your child by investing the same premium in a stock index fund. The cheapest plan premium of $25 a month could be worth $3.7 million at age 66 not $350,000. You are compounding the insurer’s profit as well as your own savings in a low-cost stock market index. Even if you don’t start right away, you could still assure your child of living insurance: https://www.amazon.com/Tax-Free-Living-2012-strategies-build/dp/1477452702

FREE tax preparation
Advertising to you is how they pay for free credit score and “free” tax preparation. https://www.creditkarma.com/ needs your eyes to obtain dollars from sellers of financial services and they give you software to file federal and state taxes at no cost. If you need to file a simple return, this is the cheapest way. Usually simple means you have W-2 income and no home deductions. The IRS has a topic look up so you can find the answer to your question easier than waiting on the telephone for an operator to answer: https://taxmap.ntis.gov/taxmap/ You can do your federal online FREE using commercial sites through the IRS https://www.irs.gov/uac/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free. These sites charge for a state return. You can also use a local AARP tax aide office: http://www.aarp.org/money/taxes/aarp_taxaide/ AARP does not discriminate by age or income so they can usually take care of most people. Best tip: deduction for IRA contributions and tax credit up to $2,000 subtracted from tax you owe. Double Your Pleasure.

This is what happens when you cut taxes for the rich
Trump and GOP want to give themselves another tax cut. But KS tried to grow their economy by giving rich people more money. Guess what? The tax money was not spent creating more jobs. People just left the state just like in Christie’s NJ after he cut tax for millionaires. States cut essential services and child education. Now the tax cuts have to be reinstated but the taxes were increased for these things—gas, cigs and booze. NJ raised gas tax by 23 cents per gallon. The millionaires still left the states because they can. Trump’s new Treasury head says he will use a trick to make the budget look good despite cutting taxes for the wealthy. It is called “dynamic scoring." “We do believe in dynamic scoring and with the appropriate growth," said Steve Mnuchin, the nominee for Treasury secretary. "I think we want to make sure that tax reform doesn't increase the deficit." Bush II’s budget tricks with costs of wars increased debt by 102%--doubled.
Those two sentences actually contradict each other because "dynamic scoring" is just a fancy way of justifying massive increases in the national debt — increases that would result from Trump's plan to spend $500 billion on infrastructure development and war weapons while carrying out dramatic tax cuts. The plan would reduce federal revenues by $9.5 trillion over its first decade before accounting for added interest costs or considering macroeconomic feedback effects.

Is your financial person giving you the best deal?
Whatever title your person uses may be misleading according to the non-profit Consumer Federation of America. It really doesn’t matter which firm they sell for either. The only way to know if they are giving you a good deal is to do your research. Just like buying a car or house, you need information and the internet offers tons of it. Logically, good unbiased info comes from a source that does not profit from you using it. First, no person has the ability to predict how well a stock or the whole market will do in the next year, 5 or 10 years. Second, Warren Buffett has the best track record so far. His holding company has produced over 20% a year (p. 2) since 1965. You could hold the stock of his firm—BRK. His advice is to hold two index funds. Third, he says you must be patient for compounding to work its magic on your money. Fourth, not all index funds are equal, so he suggests two for you. Take the best deal.

Why Roth IRAs are the 21st century savings/investment tool
You put money in and it grows and you never pay tax on the money again. Let’s say you invest the max $5,500 a year from age 21 to age 67. You could have $7.7 million. Let’s say you quit investing at age 31—just $55,000. By age 67, you could have $2.8 million. You could have an extra 25% by avoiding the tax from a regular pension or IRA when you take it out. Or let’s say you have an emergency and need $10,000 to buy a car. There is no tax or penalty even if you are under age 59.5. It is your original contribution. This works for your emergency fund since funds are usually back in your checking in 1 day. Your money keeps growing and you pay no tax every year unlike a regular account. And the Roth beats a 401k unless you have a match from your employer.

Vehicles made to go 300,000 miles and save you money
The marketing of vehicles highlights the emotions we feel when driving. Some want speed. Some want luxury. Some want economy. Some want reliability. This last category is hard to sell because it is not very exciting to say my car can go 300,000 miles. But these 10 have proved reliable over time and for those who want to get from here to there without a stop at the dealer or garage these are real deal. No excitement but also no worry about expensive repairs or hanging out at the dealer for hours. Plus, if you can do 300K on one $15,000 expense, you can skip buying 2 or 3 more cars saving $30-$45,000.

Trump’s budget guy promises to give Trump facts and cut SS benefits
GOP Mick Mulvaney , R-S.C., Budget, defended cuts to popular entitlement programs that Trump vowed to keep intact and emphasized that he would bring a "fact-based approach" to the role. “Fact-based” is NOT what The Don does. So GOP will take the “facts” of our paying for SS and Medicare benefits and cut them with their ideology. There is no Constitution mandate to cut benefits when our expenses outrun our contributions. Congress pays for cost overruns every day for all their weapons and pet projects. We paid $1.7 Billion for the Denver VA hospital that was approved for $328 million. So when the GOP wants to pay their friends and lobbyists for extra costs/profits, they do not hesitate. We have no lobbyists so it is easy for them to cut the benefits we paid for over a lifetime.

We are entering the Twilight Zone:
"There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadowbetween science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone."

Remember, Don Trump is still a contractor from Queens NY, just richer than most. Most of his income is from lending his wealth “brand” to other’s buildings and golf ranges.

Like mafia family, The Don has never had a boss, no corporate board to question his acts!
“Trust only family“I'd love to have Jared helping us on deals with other nations and see if we can do peace in the Middle East
Ivanka met with Japan PM Abe already. Sell more bracelets in Tokyo?

The Don keeps  “friends” (the mob) closer than enemies: banks own his future income and Putin could buy up his markers. We worry about conflicts of interest.

Trump ends penalty for NOT having insurance—$695 tax enforcement gone
President Trump signed an executive order late Friday giving federal agencies broad powers to unwind regulations created under the Affordable Care Act, which might include enforcement of the penalty for people who fail to carry the health insurance that the law requires of most Americans. Also late Friday, Reince Priebus, Trump’s chief of staff, issued an executive memorandum ordering a freeze on regulations for all government agencies.
Trump stopped the mortgage fee reduction Obama started last week.

The Don’s new 35% tariff on autos will eliminate 31,000 jobs here not Mexico. Counter tariffs by Mexico, China the world will reduce exports cutting another 500,000 jobs here. Bush tried this in 2002 and made steel expensive so can’t afford to make steel stuff here and 200,000 Americans lost jobs. The Don doesn’t read so he missed this study.

Impossible dreams of a megalomaniac—lie #106
“I will never, ever let you down,” he declared. The president told people as he worked on the speech that he was intrigued by John F. Kennedy’s 1961 call for getting a man on the moon by the end of the decade. He rolled out no moonshot initiative today, but Trump did say elliptically that he’s excited “to free the earth from the miseries of disease.”

The Don will cut regulations by 75%. Buy your air and water testing kits now!
Imports will be taxed at the border.
SS Medicare delayed due to Trump freeze on hiring

Another Lie: All those “Make America Great Again" baseball caps were made in China, Vietnam and Bangladesh. So much for "buy American and hire American."
Trump vision is delusion: Automation will take more jobs in future—no going back.

Another Lie: torture 'absolutely' works: 'we have to fight fire with fire' yet Pompeo, CIA and Mattis, Defense pledged to follow the interrogations law and the army field manual. Experienced interrogators have said befriending captives is more effective than torture.

DallasNews: He is a chronic and unapologetic liar. He doesn’t even realize it.

Pope warns us about elected dictators: "And all Germans vote for Hitler. Hitler didn't steal the power, his people voted for him, and then he destroyed his people.”

Poll: 56% said they believe he is not honest, 53% said he “does not care about average Americans,” and 62% said he is not level-headed. Meanwhile, 68% consider him a “strong” person, and 65% said they believe he is intelligent.

Police want gun control.
When everyone has guns; your chance of being killed goes up. Police don’t know who to shoot. They assume everyone has one and shoot first. You and thief have guns. CO schools now allow teachers/administrators to carry guns in the classroom. Kid lesson! Since 2015, police have killed 86 people with realistic looking FAKE guns--suicide?

Husband kills wife thinking burglar

Trumpers want police to start buying military weapons against civilians again.

SCAMS: “Illegal voters” claim debunked: 5 Trump family “registered” in 2 states!
Common item does NOT make them illegal voters. Trump misunderstands voting law--2.75 million people were registered in more than one state but don’t vote twice. Dead people are not removed from registration since they did not ask for “removal.”
