National sales tax

GOP new tax plan gives to rich; takes from poor—socialism for rich
Ryan’s stimulant plan wants to lower the top tax rate from 39% which no one pays to 33%, cut corp rate to 20% from 35%, cut capital rate to 12.5% from 15%. This “tax cut for growth” plan failed in KS but GOP ignores disaster. GOP pays for cuts by adding a “consumption” tax—a socialist-style sales tax. You and I will pay extra tax on purchases: EVERYTHING. Socialist countries call it VAT, ad valorem tax. Trump’s Mr Christie already started with gas tax in NJ. (Wealthy use jet fuel not regular.) Your federal income tax will be 12%, 25%, or 33% up from 10%. We lose deductions for state and local tax plus our mortgage interest. So Mr Buffett and Trump would pay less than 17% total tax now and we would pay more than the 32.9% total we pay now. This is the tax scheme that Greece has and everyone avoids paying tax by using the underground market or send their money outside the country. Many US corps and rich send their money overseas too.

Is your advisor taking too much of your earnings?
Your advisor’s 2% costs—fees, commission, trading taxes, poor timing—may be taking 63% of your potential nest egg over time. Do the math. If you earn 7% and they take 2% you may be giving away the best part of your retirement. There are non profit money managers that are better for you and your future. That is what the “fiduciary rule” is all about. Why would the industry be fighting the “best product for you” rule? Who do you think pays the $560 billions they take each year? You put up the money. You take the risk. You should pay them only if they can do better than average, right?

Did your portfolio lose 4% last Friday?
World events cause people who are impulsive to lose money. If you sold, you just locked in a loss. Ask yourself, do the companies you own derive ALL their earnings from Briton or the EU? If you own a portfolio of stocks like most broad index funds or ETFs, isn’t this event exactly WHY you own a group of stocks? If you sold, how will you know when to buy back your shares? Will you be happy with 1% from cash equivalents for the whole year? What if stocks bounce back to earn 7% for the year? Will you be angry with yourself or advisor?  Is it likely that you will end the year with a loss from a well diversified stock fund? If you didn’t sell, is this a good time to buy more? If you sold, how do you plan to pay for all those taxes? Advisors don’t have to pay your taxes.

HALF of us have less than 3 month’s security
30% of us have NOTHING in reserve. If we lose our job or car brakes, we must borrow or make a big change. Looking for another job or brake job without money is tough—even impossible. Make a start with loose change. Every day drop change into a jar and keep it safe. You may make saving automatic by depositing your tax refund (average $3,000) into your savings account. You can even buy a 5 year CD so you earn more and you are not tempted to cash it in. You won’t mind the penalty if it is for a real emergency. Some people even keep a credit card/home equity line in the freezer for tough times.

Millennials lost hope in Social Security—future security insecure
Most workers under 30 see Congress ending SS benefits as we know them. Bern’s promise to expand SS was heard but not believed. Like “free college,” we just don’t see the GOP letting it come to a reality. Lobbyist like Wall Street and NRA have captured the democracy’s process of creating a path to future. Don is looking backward. Review
Jack Kennedy’s challenge: So let us begin anew — remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of weakness, and sincerity is always subject to proof. Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate. Let both sides explore what problems unite us instead of belabouring those problems which divide us.

What is your retirement income withdrawal strategy?
Annuity money is taxable as income not capital gains. You have to start liquidating your IRA and 401k by age 70.5 using the IRS-timetable not yours. Which account do you tap first? And last? Which assets to give to family now vs legacy at death? Will you owe estate tax and how can you avoid it? States have estate and inheritance tax starting as low as $25,000. Do you need a planner or lawyer? Who inherits your IRA set up 30 years ago? Does your ex’s family receive anything? Should you convert your IRA to Roth IRA? Make your plan or gov uses its plan: https://www.amazon.com/Your-Retirement-Spending-Plan-enough/dp/1461084016

Taking free money at work?
Are you passing up FREE money at work? If you have a 401k or pension plan, does it offer to match your contribution? If there is no match at all, you should consider starting your own. Yes, you can obtain FREE money for your own pension account. For each $3,000 you contribute to this self-directed pension, you get $30,000 in gains FREE of income tax. You get 25-30% FREE money because fed and state taxes are NOT due. How? https://www.amazon.com/Millionaire-Mutual-Funds-Save-taxes/dp/1534939490

Don's business is taking other people's money

Don’s business acumen is his greatest claim to be president … but
Atlantic City was a very good cash cow for me for a long time.” Trump’s experience in Atlantic City gives clues to running America as personal business. He put up little of his own money, shifted personal debts to the casinos and collected millions of dollars in salary, bonuses and other payments. The burden of his failures fell on investors and others who had bet on his business acumen according to R. Buettner and C V Bagli. “There’s something not right when every single one of your projects doesn’t work out.” “People underestimated Donald Trump’s ability to pillage the company,” said Sebastian Pignatello, a private investor who at one time held stock in the Trump casinos worth more than $500,000. “He drove these companies into bankruptcy by his mismanagement, the debt and his pillaging.” America cannot use Junk bonds to get out of debt. America is not a deal he can use.

Use your own tax shelter—your broker/advisor is retiring with his/her
Working people have their own tax shelter—the Roth IRA. The IRS § 408A is available from any large financial institution. You can contribute $5,500 a year to buy stocks, bonds, ETFs etc and let the assets grow tax-FREE. You can take money out FREE (contributions are FREE before 59.5 years; earnings are FREE after 59.5 years). You pay a little tax now (15% on $3,000 deposit) but NO TAX later (0% on $1 million). You deposit $99,000 total over 30 years and spend ALL $1,000,000 later. Even when they cut pensions and Social Security, you will have your million FREE of fed and state tax.

Fix Social Security by having everyone pay same 6.2%
New report says just have everyone pay the same percent of salary. But they limit it to $195,000 salary. Why the limit? Some wealthy Congressman set the limit in 1937. It is regressive and needs to be changed. Poor pay higher percent than the rich. Currently, they don’t pay anything on their salary over $118,500. Why should they get a break like this? They get so many others—deduct stock losses, 2nd home mortgages, mortgage insurance, rental property depreciation, investment expenses, business losses, salary deferral, retirement gains, etc. Social Security is the only income that the poor have: $1341/mo.

Best investing strategy: Do Nothing—let compounding do the work
Fidelity study of which accounts did best: people who forgot their 401k and people who died. Best investment outcome for stocks long-term is to let the money work for you by compounding. Compound $9 a day to $900,000 in time. It can’t compound if you trade. Buffett: own the best businesses forever. It makes you wealthy. Traders only do well when they can move huge amounts of capital a short distance quickly. Most of us with brokers/advisors earn just 3.79% vs the market of 11% because we are afraid of loss or get greedy. Unless you know the next Amazon ($5,000 invested in Amazon ‘97 worth $1 million today), this is best deal. No timing, trading, charts, or broker/advisor.

Millennials don’t understand diversification, risk, long-term
18-35 year olds are saving but don’t think about the “not all your eggs in one basket” problem. Survey says 49% reported having an “aggressive” risk tolerance and yet 65% said market swings make them uncomfortable. 72% said that a portfolio was adequately diversified as long as it includes a broad range of stocks. “These folks think a long-term holding is five years” according to Bill Finnegan, AMG Funds. Perhaps young people have not gone through the depressions and recessions to learn.

What does the new fiduciary rule do for you?
Up till now, your broker/advisor/agent could make a lot of money from your retirement plans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB4LgkGXN8Y   They pushed variable annuities in particular because 6% of $250,000 makes their retirement sweet. Now they must “prove” that that rip is the ‘best’ for you. Most times they can’t because there are usually better outcomes for you (Not Them). However, it takes learning about your options and usually you don’t have a lot of time or knowledge. Low-cost always beats high-cost according to Morningstar so ask questions. Your advisor may not offer Vanguard or other low-cost options. They can still make big bucks from you by following an exemption (BICE) which requires them to claim they are acting in your best interests. So the new loophole is that if they don’t know any “low-cost is better than high-cost” products, they aren’t at risk. That’s like you telling the officer you didn’t know the limit was 25mph while you went 40. QED: Advisors are still salespeople.

Is home equity the way to finance retirement?
The fact that many homeowners have all their wealth tied up in their homes and the home has tripled in value over the last 30 years makes this strategy appealing. Consider the benefits and costs. Retirees are homeowners. Of those with more than $100,000 in savings, about 90% own a home, according to LIMRA. Among those with less savings, 70% are homeowners. The ability to access home equity can save you from being forced to sell other assets at the wrong time. "That is really going to improve a retiree's cash flow, especially for people relying on withdrawals from their savings because they don't have a pension," American College’s Hopkins says.
Make sure you have enough before you retire: https://www.amazon.com/Are-you-ready-retirement-worst/dp/149100266

Is an HSA right for you?
High-deductible health plans are becoming popular. Is investing in health savings account right for you? Contributions are tax deductible when used for medical expenses (you don’t need to itemize your taxes). Some employers match contributions. Unlike with flexible spending accounts, however, your HSA administrator isn’t obligated to verify whether withdrawals are for eligible expenses. HSA money withdrawn for nonmedical purposes is also subject to a 20% penalty if you’re younger than age 65. Unlike the Flex Spending Account, you do NOT need to spend the account by year’s end. Some states tax the interest earned in the account. After age 65, funds can be withdrawn for any purpose without penalty. However, income tax is due like IRA and 401k accounts. You must choose the HSA. Not all employers offer it. There is no medical threshold for tax deductions so every dollar spent is deductible.

Retirees and Self-employed pay their estimated tax electronically
You can use https://www.eftps.gov/eftps/ to pay your quarterly taxes for FREE. This system can be used to automate payments from your accounts. It can used to pay any IRS tax. There is no need to send paper by registered mail and hope it gets there in time. Your confirm is electronic by setting up a payment due date at least the night before payment is transferred directly to the Treasury. It is secure. It has a voice response system (1.800.555.3453) to make payments too.

Don's new tariffs cost us $6,000

Don’s new tariffs could cost each of us $6,000 a year
An independent analysis of Trump’s tariff proposal finds that it could cost the average U.S. household more than $6,000 per year, with much of the burden falling on households with the lowest incomes. “We find that a Trump tariff proposal against all countries would cost U.S. consumers $459 billion annually and $2.29 trillion over five years,” David Tuerck and Paul Bachman, a pair of economists at Suffolk University in Boston, write for the nonpartisan National Foundation for American Policy.
There are many ways for Trump to ‘tax’ the middle class. Tariff’s increase the price of everything working people (not wealthy) buy.

Which investment strategy provides the best retirement outcome?
“The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient.” Warren Buffett Mr Buffett's strategy of patience has proven to be the most astounding in history. He has earned 20.8% a year compounded over 50 years including recessions and wars. He does NOT trade or speculate. He holds companies for a long time. Buffett has proved the market is NOT efficient and stock-picking can work for a few.
Buffett is the genius who found a way to beat the market. The average investor earned just 3.79% while the stock market earned 11.06% over the last 30 years. DALBAR QAIB. You can become wealthy by choosing the best investment strategy in the 21st century: The Hub and Spoke Strategy. Use the best of both worlds: market index and Buffett's stock. There are almost as many “investing” strategies as people who work on Wall Street. There are institutional and retail investors who put up the money and take all the risks. And there are salespeople who take profits unfairly from the investors.
You have your choice but there are three considerations first: trust yourself or others, your futures will change, wealth-building takes time.

No retirement fund? $9 is all it takes
Almost 20% of Americans 65 and older are now working, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s the most older people with a job since the early 1960s, before the U.S. enacted Medicare. This may explain why younger people have trouble finding work and why wages remain flat despite productivity increases. More employers are offering tax-FREE Roth 401ks yet only 10% participate in these retirement funds. As the overall economy improves, the growth of productivity is going to existing asset holders, not to those producing it. Since 1995, the average year-over-year inflation rate for energy has been 3.9%, for food, 2.6%; for shelter, 2.7%; and for medical care, 3.6%. Middle class expense increases leave no room for building assets.

GOP budget-cutters go after the poor again—GOP ‘heroes’ target defenseless
It is an easy group to target with no lobby and no defenders. GOP will cut food stamps again instead of supporting a wage hike that might reduce the need for this subsidy. GOP did not go after oil and gas socialists on subsidies, not the socialist supports that guarantee income to corporate farmers, not the socialist price guarantees to sugar and cotton and peanuts and soy and corn and etc. They did not cut the defense programs the pentagon says they don’t want or need. No, they cut food stamps. No wage offset, no retraining. Former manufacturing workers now on food stamps. Part time hiring up.
Always hit the people who don’t have lobbyists or big election gifts.

Making the world safe from BANKING
Congress and Obama have stopped fighting Wall Street during this contribution period called the 2016 elections. However, the problem of leveraged gambling without consequences still hangs over this planet. Closer than global warming as a threat, leaders of the world’s financial system have not taken the necessary steps to keep the world safe from BANKING, according to Mervyn King, former head of the Bank of England. “The financial system, King reveals, is still wired so that a handful of well-connected people capture the benefits from risk-taking while the entire society bears the cost.” Bankers and regulators use ‘complexity’ to defeat serious change. King’s solution: let investors who give the banks money to gamble take the hit when they lose. Keep deposits separate!

Trump policy now and then: Unintended consequences is real threat!

Is an immediate annuity right for you?
When your advisor proposes buying an annuity to guarantee income for you in retirement, they may not mention certain facts that you should know. First, an annuity purchase is final – few can be reversed. Second, you will be receiving regular income from your IRA, pension, etc at age 70.5 due to the IRS mandate. Third, many annuities have higher fees and charges than similar income producing alternatives. Fourth, an immediate annuity starts paying you monthly income in return for your cash but is based on current low interest rates. When they go up, you are stuck with lower income.

Do you need a will like Prince forgot?
He did not leave one in plain sight so his “relatives” will spend $ millions for lawyers and courts to get some cash or what they “deserve.” Well if you have that problem, get thee to a lawyery. Or make your own for $55 at Nolo or as little as $35. If you only have a house, car, bank accounts etc in joint name you may not need one. Your IRAs and pensions have bene clauses so they don’t go to probate. Simple asset estates don’t need lawyers—you may pay your state tax yourself. Fed death tax begins at $5.45 million. I read library books to do mine. Avoiding probate doesn’t help with some states: everything is taxed—even retirement funds—unless it all goes to spouse.

We need regulation—GOP wrong—companies/cities wouldn’t fix bad products on own

New rule lets business expense any item up to $2,500 – cuts taxes
Effective for 2016 and later, IRS upped the $500 de minimus threshold to $2,500. For small business, writing everything off which costs less than $2,500 is now great way to reduce profits. That’s right, $2,500 a pop. For example, for a food vendor, almost everything they buy, except the truck they use, will cost less than $2,500 so they write them off and pay less tax.

How our government wastes our money

Wealthy make us pay their taxes thanks to Congress

Wealthy use these loopholes and tax havens to make us pay their taxes
Economists are now focusing on how and where the rich hide from taxation. We pay either now or later when deficits are higher. Can you use these tricks or havens: Sports ticket charity, art ‘museum,’ GRAT, truck/hybrid, 529, hire tax lawyer in Caymans, Lux, Swiss, or make your official “address” in Ireland, Bermuda, Virgin Is, Netherlands, Singapore, etc? Rich pay our elected officials to maintain the current tax evasion system. Eventually, top 1% will have us pay all of their taxes. Already they say: “We don’t pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes.”

My wealth has come from a combination of living in America, some lucky genes, and compound interest.

A low-cost index fund is the most sensible equity investment for the great majority of investors.

Did your broker rob you of your discounts?
12 broker-dealers were fined for failing to give discounts on sales when you buy in quantity. They call them ‘breakpoints’ and you may have paid the full load without the discounts up front in addition to the expenses each year and the back-end load. You may get some money back but you will have to wait. Why give up 63% of your returns?

Principal Financial shuts hedge fund Liongate—fees too high
Fee-conscious investors withdrew too much money from its funds. Investors dislike extra fees for poor performance. You should only pay when performance is outstanding.

GOP Freedom Caucus wants freedom from government not really to govern
Anarchists in GOP don’t want Ryan, Boehner or any ‘Leader’ so they can keep obstructing government. They keep getting paid for no work and love it. Freedom means party every night in Washington without the hard compromise work. Freedom Caucus has said “he [Ryan] is too willing to compromise.” They will stop SS, Medicare, Vets, all but guns! As Reagan said Government is NOT the solution, it’s the problem.
But Reagan raised taxes 11 times, tripled the deficit, gave amnesty to 3 million undocumented, sold weapons to Iran and created 300,000 fed Vet Adm.

Is a FREE smart phone plan right for you?
If you need a phone only when you travel because you have a landline for regular calls, try https://ringplus.net/. I have been using for 3 mo with ZERO monthly charge. I bought smart phone from Sprint and moved my cell number from Tracfon but the FREE monthly minutes and data are enough for me to make the travel calls I need. It is my car phone. It costs me NOTHING now. http://frugalcaller.com/ringplus-review/

Does our President need to be honest?

Hillary: Called GOP bluff! Why FBI now? Trust her? It’s always the lies after.
Carson: Voter suppression laws not racist—just so happens they exclude DEMs?
Replace Medicare/Medicaid with savings account? Honestly, what BS?
Trump: Can an entertainer/real estate salesman be honest?
Cruz: Shutting down gov. qualifies you to be Pres.?
Jeb: Using W’s advisors to justify W’s failures works?
Ryan: I want to be THE leader. Not the F___ing ‘Führer’ of GOP Anarchists!

Sanders rejects Shkreli’s donations—Shkreli raised price of AIDS drug $14 to $750.

Biden: I was against killing B Laden before, then for it AFTER? Wobble?
Webb quits—not enough questions in debate—really a republican?
Lincoln will NOT be Pres. Chafee quits after being Blitzed by Blitz.

GOP torture instigated by Cheney did NOT keep us safe!
Cheney’s methods were not effective for useful info. Police/Gov now use Cognitive Interview since new study finds better results. Cheney tactics are not as effective as just asking a few open ended questions with promise of better tomorrow. Confession/truth does not come from Cheney’s “enhanced interrogation techniques” – only more lies because prisoner sees no better tomorrow. Brutality instead of results only makes sense to sadists. Get more flies with honey!

We need regulation because…
Drones for fun can kill people and airplanes, says Feds.
Brokers rob investors all the time—no discounts, misprice bonds, etc etc.
GOP wants to end regulation of Wall Street and leave us to bail them again.

OR college mass murderer acted like “playing a video game”
"He was so nonchalant through it all, like he was playing a video game and showed no emotion. The shots knocked me to the ground and felt like a truck hit me," Mintz said.  Is that what goes through the mind of mass attackers?

6 year-old kills 3 year-old playing with gun
Dad ‘hides’ loaded gun and then shows kid where he puts it. What kind of parent does this?
Angry driver kills 4 year-old because Dad in wrong lane. It is just like a video game!

New transmissions for some cars are problem—CR
Consumer Reports cites some tranny problems with long list of new cars. Maybe wait for fix or buy 3 year old to save 50%. I just got a Camry ’12 for about $13K w/o trade. New ’16 stocks will fill used lots by Dec according to some trenders. I looked at JD Power 3 year old car problem study to make sure. Could not afford Lexus and Buick so Toyota:  http://www.jdpower.com/press-releases/2015-vehicle-dependability-study

Why is the economy not as strong as it used to be?
One reason is clear. 70% of our economy is the result of us spending – buying everyday things. If we don’t spend; business don’t sell and we don’t get paid. Wages are NOT increasing yet almost all our expenses are. Wages are the same as in the ‘70s if you include inflation (6 cent stamp is now $0.49). The best paying factory jobs like making cars pay $28/hr tops. Now after Detroit bankruptcies and NAFTA, few cars are made here. New workers at Fiat’s Chrysler earn only $15.78 ($32,822 a year), and can hardly afford a Fiat. Worse, if we adjust for inflation, Fiat pays less than Henry Ford in 1914. Have you driven a FiatChrysler lately? Who can eat/sleep and save for college, retirement and health on $32,822? America is returning to the ‘good old’ Robber Baron days!

HOW CONGRESS WASTES OUR TAX DOLLARS
“We must guard against the militaryindustrial complex.” 1960, Pres Dwight Eisenhower.
Defense spending has DOUBLED in 14 years.
Since 2001, the base defense budget has soared from $287 billion to $530 billion — and             that's NOT counting the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, ISIL, Ukraine, Cameroon
US knew US would fail in Vietnam in 1965 but still 1.3 million dead, Kissinger diary.

America needs to take care of American’s needs FIRST!
Rebuild America Act: a five-year plan would invest $1 trillion and create or maintain at least 13 million decent-paying jobs—Senate Budget Committee but GOP says no.
Will GOP use taxes to move Alaska town due to global warming they don’t accept?

We are still wasting $8 million per HOUR we don’t have in Syria/Iraq/Afgan/            Ukraine/Cameroon. Obama keeps 9,800 in Afghanistan
Taliban captures Kunduz, Afghans run. We bomb hospital instead.

We pay bonus for kills – no wonder the world hates us!

We are supporting child abuse by Afghan leaders by giving them arms/money.

100,000 our military in Germany and Japan….still. Why? Costs us $200 billion.
Residents of Okinawa object to tens of thousands of U.S. troops and another base there.

Wall Street self-regulator covers up bad broker activity still
FINRA has failed to live up to its promise that the settlements would not be removed from BrokerCheck unless they have little investor protection value.

IRS says scammers now use official address and letterhead via mail
Some schemes provide an actual IRS address where they tell the victim to mail a receipt for the payment they make. Others use emails that contain a fake IRS document with a phone number or an email address for a reply. These scams often use official IRS letterhead in emails or regular mail that they send to their victims. They try these ploys to make the ruse look official.
