We are paying more taxes than US corporations

Why do actual investors earn less than their benchmarks?

A recent study found that, while certain mutual funds and ETFs delivered a 9.4% average annual total return for the past decade, the average investor in these funds got only 7.7% due to poorly timed trading activity. This really hurts those who are investing for a big goal like house down payment or retirement or business start up. Over time, a $250 a month investment would reach $1.3 million WITHOUT the trading activity. Timing the markets would result in total accumulation of only $805,605—a loss of $494,395. In another study, Fidelity found that its accounts that did the best were those for which the owners forgot about them. Investing is simple to be successful but not easy. Gambling is hard to be successful but easy to do. Successful investors have 3 ‘pots’ of money: Patience for the long-term goals and impatience for the short-term get-rich-quick schemes. The third pot pays for living expenses.

What is the single most important reason for financial failure?

You are right; it is debt. If we had no debt, especially interest debt that can NOT be deducted, we could easily reach our long-term goals. We have credit card debt, mortgage debt and car debt. We borrow an average $34,635 for new vehicles and $21,438 for used vehicles. The average loan term is 70 months for new cars, 65 months for used cars and 37 months for leased vehicles. The average monthly payments for new, used and leased vehicles is $563, $397, $450. And this is an era of low interest rates. Interest is NOT deductible unless your company leases your car. So how is financial failure defined? How much do we lose with our vehicle loans? Investing $563 for 70 months could yield $59,541. Investing instead of buying on time provides enough money to buy a vehicle outright. This is why the wealthy pay cash for their rides. Their cash is special: their cash is compounded cash. They earn the money we pay on debt. We pay 9.46% they earn 9%.

Most Americans are paying more taxes than US corporations pay

In fact many large profitable companies have Negative tax rates—taking our money as a refund. Most tech companies, including Oracle, Adobe and Microsoft are still paying much less by using an accounting trick to report profits outside the US. Many large profitable firms like Wells Fargo, Salesforce, AbbVie, Duke Energy, Adobe, Broadcom, IBM, Medtronic, and GE have a negative rate—We actually give them our tax payments. The rest pay lower rates than we do: NVIDIA, NextEra Energy, Bank of America, Pfizer, and Texas Instruments pay the lowest rates. The average overall company tax rate is only 19.7%. Our average is 32.9% including Fed, state, SS, Medicare, sales and gas taxes. This does not include property tax which some of us pay. We don’t receive a state subsidy like the $3 billion state subsidy that Foxconn got in 2018. Some call government-supported corporate tax refunds and grants US socialism.

Insurers may be overcharging you for coverage

Insurers use our credit scores and history to set premiums for car, home and rent insurance. Other service providers (rental agent, mortgage and auto loan) may use credit scores to set their charges. The CARES Act placed a temporary hold on reporting negative credit information to bureaus that collect credit history. When the hold is lifted, you may get whacked with increases in everything if the pandemic has disrupted your life. Some insurers recognize that the pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on the credit scores of some racial and income groups. Some are making it their business model to switch to a usage-based approach. Insurer Root’s usage-based approach can define a new industry approach that ties driving risk directly to driving habits rather than proxies. Thus drivers who speed, text and cause accidents may have a lower premium than safe drivers who have filed bankruptcy due to a medical catastrophe. Thus some insurers may offer you a better deal but unless you shop every 2 years you won’t know. And don’t forget to check for excessive car repair problems before you buy again.

What is your plan for your next financial stress?

Most of us have no plan to deal with a financial emergency. A plan BEFORE a crisis while in retirement would provide us with peace of mind—one of the most important goals we have. I hear about folks that are overwhelmed by a medical expense event, a family member money request, and a huge loss in retirement savings. In a recent survey, the most common answers given by folks age 40-73 were ask family and friends, children, church/state agencies, work and downsize to live on SS benefits. These are desperation measures, not a plan. My experience with folks who made a plan shows that building an emergency fund of HALF a year’s expenses works best. These folks kept that emergency money in a balanced fund like Vanguard’s Wellesley Income not a bank: they earn 7% not 1%. First, you feel better. Second, the money gives you time to figure out what to do. Third, the crisis may be over in a year. Make a plan using the tools that are available online for FREE.

How to protect your retirement funds and keep them growing

The best protection is not putting your money in bank products, money market funds, an annuity, or bonds. These are the vehicles I see folks using because their advisors told them to “protect” savings in “safe” accounts. However, as inflation rises, they will lose buying power—probably for a long time to come. Unless you know you will die in a couple of years, fixed return investments will starve you to death. All of the traditional “safe” places are providing Wall Street with great revenue. However, these places don’t help you. Over the next 30 years, you could be giving away HALF your potential nest egg. The best way to protect your funds is to grow them—the best defense is a great offense.  Growth and security come from a combination of stocks, bonds and real estate holdings. Over time, your nest egg will continue to grow with stocks while bonds and real estate provide stability. A low cost balanced fund provides steady total returns of over 7%. For instance, Vanguard’s Wellesley Income Fund has provided 40 years of solid returns over 7% on average. Retirement income is thus a combination of interest and dividends. As part of the Vanguard Top Ten funds, investors shift more of their assets to this fund as they progress in retirement.

Millennials use BEST investment: Earn 11%

Millennials use the BEST investment strategy: Earn 11% not 3.79%
Young people are learning how to invest using smarter strategies. Using retirement and investment goals with dollar targets, they are excited about their life journey. Planning for goals in the future is changing their lifestyles. Company pensions and Social Security benefits are questioned. They realize what they do today changes their long-term outcomes. Many seek low-cost vehicles for their investing dollars. New tools appear daily. For instance, many studies show advisor funds can’t beat index funds. They are weary of ‘professional’ advisors. They can become successful using FREE unbiased knowledge and information so they avoid the mistakes of their parents.

GOP wants Congress to stop wasting their lives “dialing for dollars”
FL rep says he wants members to stop wasting 30 hours a week fund raising for the next election and concentrate on running the country. David Jolly of Indian Shores, has taken aim at this practice with a bill that would bar federal officeholders, including U.S. senators and representatives, from personally soliciting money for their campaigns. Committee meetings and floor votes are scheduled not to interfere with fundraising time for members, Jolly told "60 Minutes." A Congress person’s campaign staff will keep raising money for him. All have super PACs and lobbyists to get elected. The pressure on members of Congress to raise money has intensified since the U.S. Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United decision, which allowed corporations, unions and individuals to pour unlimited amounts of cash into elections.
Is it likely that Congress will get more done if they are not dialing all day?

Buffett bets against hedge fund manager Winner takes $1 million
Warren Buffett made a million-dollar bet with investment firm Protege Partners that an index fund could beat a portfolio of funds of hedge funds selected by Protege (the proceeds of the bet will be donated to charity). Buffett’s "do-nothing" strategy of indexing is trouncing hedge funds 63.5% to 19.6%. Over a 10-year period commencing on January 1, 2008, and ending on December 31, 2017, the S&P 500 will outperform a portfolio of funds of hedge funds when performance is measured on a basis net of fees, costs, and expenses.

GOP House gives itself $90 BILLION pork and CUTS support for troops
What ever happened to the old Reagan party and the new Teas out to cut gov spending? The GOP spending seems out of this world, any world. $90 BILLION for new pork to members of the GOP, especially in states where GOP elections will happen. No money for Flint pipes or other infrastructure jobs. Cuts to the troops for food and ammo makes no sense unless this GOP-made emergency will help Don pass any Obama-program gutting he wants to set the pace early. The really fantastic world GOP lives in contains shifting ISIS-fighting funds to weaponry the Defense Dept says it does NOT want! You cannot leave war to the generals they say. Wow!
That is how the GOP will ice the future deficit for our kids. American values!
Don’t get stuck with the taxes to cover GOP pork: http://www.amazon.com/Tax-Shelter-Young-Americans/dp/1500426520

How will your state deal when the 1% moving to avoid taxes
FL has no income tax and some wealthy people are moving because Congress asked them to pay their fair share on oversees money and it is taxable. Will the schools and roads have to wait for upgrades? Will the Gov cut staff and unnecessary travel? Can your state make up for the loss of their taxes by increasing sales and use taxes which hit workers? NJ just lost 1 billionaire and the Gov is traveling for a job instead of cutting staff. KS just cut everything in the budget so the 1% can have more. Schools despair in OK and GOP still gives tax cut to rich. Carrier took 1,400 jobs to Mexico instead of to KS despite no tax on business. GOP KS failing citizens. GOP states fail citizens but help rich!
Will you be the last person paying taxes in your state? http://www.amazon.com/Tax-FREE-Wealth-How-laws-free/dp/1475089236

Does our President need to be smart and truthful? Do they even care about truth?

Don: My new advisor, Manafort, is real dealmaker too—Rap sheet is extensive!
All protestors are thugs and criminals and I will see they get big jail time.

I will reduce US debt by asking China, etc to take less—Social Security too!

Rick Perry: I want to be Don’s VP so I didn’t mean he’s “cancer on conservatism

You remember what drinking the Kool-Aid did to Jim Jones followers!

Paul Ryan: Under my RyanCare, only sick people will pay more for care—way more!
I really am NOT running but Trump has not yet kissed my ring.

Don just hired my old Wall Street firm’s money man, Mnuchin of Goldman.
Establishment GOP can support me since ballots are secret

50 people pay for HALF the election money spent—we don’t know if they are Americans

Regulators are the only protection we have since we can’t sue anymore
“It is nearly impossible for one individual to take on a corporation with vast resources.” (GOP bill requires impossible: every person in class action suffer “same type and scope of injury”)
Supremes stop us from suing—State courts no longer available to sue corporations!

.guns not people kill people: 2 year old kills mom with gun laying around. No safety?
.gun needed for seat in church—during service, he didn’t change seat so killed!
.NRA’s perfect crime: 11 year old shoots armed burglar (meth head) to protect stuff!
.TN allows campus faculty and staff to pack—schools will have NO liability for use!
.If everybody has a gun, someone is bound to get shot—many will get shot to death
.Hospital error has become the most dangerous activity you can engage in. No 3 killer.

Did your "representatives" give YOU any tax breaks?

Did your “representatives” give you tax breaks like those for the wealthy?
GOP says that the package of tax breaks “will grow our economy and help American taxpayers keep more of their hard-earned dollars” while providing “certainty to American taxpayers.” This is the old “trickle down” strategy. Business got research and development tax credit and heavy machine deduction to $500,000. A business can deduct 50% of new equipment and vehicles in 2016. They got many other tax breaks.

Succeed in this angry American decade
Many Americans are angry with their situation just like during the 30’s Depression. Leaders are competing for support by driving wedges between us. We are unhappy that our labor intensive jobs have flown. We are unhappy that we are stuck with wages that don’t increase with our productivity. The wealthy now own 90% of assets. 20% of children live in poverty. Our middle-class is shrinking while new entrepreneurs make a fortune overnight. America has swung to its individualistic right. The trust of an earlier period of the American Dream for all is shrinking fast. Demagogues appear in times like these because they offer simple solutions—target one group and control the angry mob as leader. Leadership in one man (usually) allows power to corrupt absolutely. But in our short history, we have voted for a Teddy to breakup corporate power and FDR to fight right-wing extremists overseas. Most of us do not like giving all the power to one person like our ancestors did.
A new poll shows that the majority of us do NOT feel comfortable with a group hater as President. We prefer a positive hopeful future for all of us even if it isn’t possible.

27% student loans owed by seniors are in default—Solution?
The amount of education debt held by people 65 and older has risen from $2.8 billion in 2005 to $18.2 billion in 2013. Gov guarantees the loans and lenders can collect our Social Security benefits FOREVER. There is no time limit and no bankruptcy discharge. Bankruptcy judges have said that to get education loans wiped away, borrowers must show their entire lives would otherwise be characterized by a “certainty of hopelessness” or that repaying the debt “strips [the debtor] of all that makes life worth living.” Federal rules allowing education debt collectors to auto-dial borrowers’ cell phones. Parents become indentured servants for life. See discharge process: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans/forgiveness-cancellation

Why are women better investors than men?
New survey says men lost 1.8% while women only 1.4% in 2015. They become rich faster than men now. Over time, both would be better off NOT trading the study shows. Trading assumes we know or we think our broker/advisor knows what will happen in the future. Greed and fear are Wall Street’s tricks to separate us from our money like fortune tellers. Buffett says his holding period is forever. 257 hedge funds closed this quarter because they lost so much money. The record is clear: earn 3.79% with managed account or 11.06% with index funds. If we just held the whole market and didn’t try to time the ups and downs, we could earn 10-12% a year. This is the record you could have:
2014    13.80%
2013    32.43
2012    15.88
2011      2.07
2010    14.87

Why let your broker/advisor take 2/3rd of your returns?
You put up the money and take all the risks. You should earn the full amount of return the market provides. Your broker has no special information or technical tools to win or they would own their own management fund. As a sales person, their job is to sell you for a profit, just like all salesmen. Successful investing is about putting your money to work not playing poker or the slots. It takes a lifetime to build a successful business. Why would investing be any different? Let your money work and compound for you. Over time your $250 a month compounds to $1 million. Earn 11% not 3.69%:

Which vehicles last at least 10 years?
Sad but true that all 10 have foreign labels but are made by American workers. American management seems to have hard time managing the process of making reliable cars. Perhaps their top brass does not stay long enough in the job or wants more money or wants to build a corporate empire or run the company into bankruptcy or sale in order to cancel labor contracts or run up the stock price by cutting R&D so the options have more value or retire with a $1 million pension while cutting everyone else’s pension and health care benefits. It is amazing that the best cars are made by the management that takes the fewest rewards. Bottom of the reliability scores: Jeep, Dodge, Ford, Chrysler
Compare management of Chrysler now Fiat, GM now new GM, to Toyota and Honda.

Does our President need to be rational and truthful?

Cruz on budget: "It was Republican leadership playing Santa Claus to the lobbyists”
Trump: “while I hate some journalists, “I’d never kill them.”
“There is no proof Vladimir Putin has killed enemies or journalists.”
Putin is a “strong leader” Putin thinks Trump is “brilliant”
Clinton: “Trump is ISIS best recruiter” No comment on Trump vulgarity—IA take note.
“I will shut below average schools
Christie: "does anybody really care if Hillary apologizes to Donald or vice versa”?
Carson: “I never saw a body with bullet holes more devastating than taking the right to             arm ourselves away.” Carson never lost a child in gun fire.
Jeb: “I am more comfortable ranking lower in the polls because it means less scrutiny.
Graham: I told them how to fight ISIL so now I’m done.
Sanders: “Sad reality is Wall Street regulates the Fed.” Fed ready to bail them out again.

New poll: Americans oppose Donald Trump’s plan to ban all Muslims from coming to the country by a more than 2:1 margin (66 percent to 27 percent). The partisan divide on the issue, however, is sharp. Democrats would accept Syrian refugees (74-22) while Republicans (82-13) and independents (51-42) would ban them. All three groups oppose barring all Muslims: Dems (79-18); Republicans (51-41) and independents (67-22). A majority (55 percent) of Americans believe domestic extremists are a bigger threat than foreign radicals, while 55 percent think Islam is a peaceful religion. Americans also support (50-42) sending ground troops to fight ISIS.

Regulators are the only protection we have since we can’t sue anymore

Is a SBLOC right for you?
Securities-Backed Lines of Credit are being marketed by your broker/advisor but regulators are concerned that when your portfolio loses value, you may have problems with repayments. Your loan may be called at any time so the extra capital may not be worth the risk especially if you are using assets you expect to grow long term. On the other hand, if you have a sure thing—an investment you know will perform (?) and you pledge a small part of your portfolio, the low fixed interest rate on these loans may be perfect. Compare a 15 month 0% balance transfer loan from your credit card. A variable rate SBLOC may add another level of risk not worth taking.

Future of computers, internet and work?
Many are already doing everything online on their smartphones, so why pay for home broadband or landlines? Cable firms have a problem. Where will we do work if we are already on call from employers via phone. If all major computing is done in cloud, why keep data on separate drives? We won’t need a wallet or purse for creds/info. Work will be running machines that actually do the physical stuff except personal services like plumbers, electricians and movers. Most of us find answers online now—diagnose illness, home and car repairs/problems/purchase, work issues. We buy almost everything online from Amazon, et al so retail stores become rare treat. HOW CONGRESS WASTES OUR TAX DOLLARS
Special Inspector General John F. Sopko has spent years documenting waste, fraud and abuse in the U.S. military’s efforts to rebuild war-torn Afghanistan. We have spent $110 billion on reconstruction projects in Afghanistan. When adjusted for inflation, that total exceeds the value of the entire Marshall Plan effort to rebuild Western Europe, WWII.
=More than $8 billion in spending on counter-narcotics efforts in Afghanistan that have “failed by every conceivable metric. Afgans grow poppies like we grow corn.
=The purchase of nearly $500 million worth of airplanes that never could fly and had to be turned into scrap.
=Construction of a building that literally began to melt when it rained.
A $500,000 health clinic that lacked water and electricity. Newborn babies had to be washed in a nearby dirty river.
= Biden promised an additional $190 million to fight corruption in Ukraine's law-enforcement and reform the justice sector.
=Navy's new $362 million ship broke down and had to be towed--lasted three weeks.
=VA keeps paying managers found guilty of retaliation on workers who complained.
=federal workers, who will get a 1.3 percent raise in 2016 but NOT for SS recipients???
=$400 million for new FBI HQ in VA or MD.
=IRS stopped from limiting political gifts from non-profits so rich can buy more votes.
= Military-industrial got biggest bump. For the first time since Cold War, contractors are sending tanks, fighting vehicles and heavy weapons to several Baltic and eastern European countries. Europe can’t defend itself? Putin responds with more nuclear weapons. We have 50,000 ‘active’ military that can’t deploy but are being paid. More =Nat. Guards needed to fill in. Civilians hired to steer drones from Las Vegas and get bonuses.
=US just killed ten Iraqi soldiers by mistakenly bombing own lines near Falluja

Tax evaders leave us with the bill

Tax evaders avoid $ billions of taxes and move jobs overseas
1000s of US corporations that profit from our purchases are not paying taxes on their income like we have to. The Supremes decided corporations are people and have “religious freedom.” Yet they don’t pay taxes on their income no matter where they make it—We must pay no matter where we earn it. Since they don’t pay taxes, we must make up the difference.
Is this fair?
Microsoft, for example, with $76.4 billion in foreign earnings, said that if it had brought those earnings home in 2013, it would have reduced the deficit by $24.4 billion. MS would have to pay 32% of income just like we do.
Aren’t you tired of paying the tax bill for MS, Google, Apple, Citi, GE, 1000 others?

Is advisor advice right for you?
In a recent survey, 23 percent of respondents weren’t sure why they do not work with a financial professional. Others said they prefer to make their own decisions (24 percent), and they feel financial professionals are too expensive (23 percent). The 35 percent of respondents who do work with financial professionals share some traits. For example, 68 percent are more likely to have calculated their retirement income need; 53 percent are confident or very confident about maintaining their lifestyle through retirement; but only sixty-eight percent of these respondents plan to continue to work with a financial professional through retirement. New tools online can replace advisors for Gen X.

“5 year hiatus in my 401k cost me $250,000”
Tim writes that he stopped investing at work for about 5 years when he was 33. He thought buying a new car was the right thing to do but it cost him about a quarter million in his retirement fund. He was investing $250 a month in his low cost 500 index fund. He now has $570,000. He figures he must keep working for 5 more years to get to his goal of $800,000. Compound interest makes his nest egg double in about 7-9 years. He will move some of his funds to a bond fund for his retirement income just as Warren Buffett does for his family: http://www.amazon.com/Warren-Buffetts-Vanguard-Funds-Retirement/dp/1496148592

Is a longevity annuity right for you?
The Treasury now allows longevity annuities in retirement plans. However, are they a good deal for you? Proponents argue that we are living longer and these deferred annuities insure lifetime income. Most start paying monthly income at age 85. Putting part of your nest egg in a guaranteed income vehicle sounds great but your money isn't liquid anymore. An emergency could require the money. The interest rates at the time of purchase may be low and thus you lock in low income for the rest of your life. Inflation reduces your purchasing power. Most annuity buyers don’t understand the costs and limits of the product. There are better alternatives that should be considered: http://www.amazon.com/The-Best-Annuity-Strategy-Income/dp/1497532019

GOP Crazies
Boehner's announcement that Republicans would sue the President of the United States over the administration's decision last year to delay the health care law's employer mandate has left many feeling CRAZY--Crazy and confused!
That's because the GOP House lawmakers ALREADY voted to do the exact same thing -- defer until 2015 the Obamacare requirement aimed at making businesses provide health coverage to their workers, or pay a penalty. Boehner suing Obama because the President only did what the House already made law. Obama is also carrying out the Bush II law giving children crossing border a place to stay for court date and lawyer and judges. Would they sue if Obama was white?

Photosynthesis on leaves makes food and oxygen in ‘photo’
The photo was achieved by using an X-ray laser to record snapshots of molecules as they split in the reaction- a method know as X-ray crystallography. In photosynthesis, oxygen is created at a metal site, which contains a cluster made up of four manganese atoms and one calcium atom. This cluster is the site that drives the light-driven process of water splitting. According to the study, it takes four light flashes to split one oxygen molecule from two water molecules. The X-ray bounces off the materials projects a picture.

 More wasted tax dollars
In 2013, federal agencies made $97 billion in overpayments, according to agency estimates. Underpayments totaled $9 billion. The amount of improper payments has steadily dropped since 2010, when it peaked at $121 billion. This $100 B does not include over $125 B to corporations as tax-FREE loans or $100 B subsidies to make oil, ethanol, sugar, peanuts, cotton, beef, on and on and also NOTHING at all. Congress people like Bachmann receive money to NOT plant on farms they don’t live or work on. Bachmann is a Swiss citizen. The farm bill cut food stamps to increase crop subsidies.

Now you will have no private life at all.

SCAMS           Why are we still paying $700 Billion a year for WWII deployments?
We are paying for 164,253 of our active-duty armed personnel to be in 150 countries around the world. We have about 50,000 in Japan and 50,000 in Germany.
Are we preparing for WWII again? There are 1,208,083[1] armed personnel in the United States. Our taxes pay for about HALF of the WORLD’s military expenditures every year. We have wasted $398.6 billion so far on the F-35 program—they can’t fly safely.
We just can’t afford to pay for everyone else’s defenses anymore.
Japan, Germany and S. Korea can pay for its own defense.

Supremes allow corporations to decide coverage—no more cancer treatments are next?
Supreme Court ruled that the owners of private companies may refuse on religious grounds to offer employees insurance coverage for birth control. Some religions claim that death by natural means is God’s will. Scalia and Co face many NEW requests to cancel health insurance now. Constitution does NOT guarantee equal treatment for all according to Supreme majority. Congress must decide to stop Supreme’s change to Constitution’s guarantee for equal treatment for all.

Commerce caught overcharging
Thousands of Massachusetts motorcycle owners will receive a total of $14.6 million in insurance refunds as a result of a settlement with Commerce Insurance Company after allegedly being overcharged on their policies, Attorney General Martha Coakley announced.

One of Every Seven U.S. Cars Has Been Recalled but Not Repaired
Why? Many times customers found that dealers don’t have the parts so can’t fix even it got appointment. Some customers don’t understand how serious since recall can be for anything. Some customers bought the recalled car used and never heard about recall. Even GM ignition switch recall for safety poor fix rate.
