Rich rigged STATE tax systems too

The rich have rigged the state tax systems too
New study says that "virtually every state's tax system is fundamentally unfair, taking a much greater share of income from low- and middle-income families than from wealthy families." It added that state and local tax systems are "indirectly contributing to growing income inequality by taxing low- and middle-income households at significantly higher rates than wealthy taxpayers."
In other words, it said the poor paying more and the rich paying less. Overall, the poorest 20 percent of Americans paid an average of 10.9 percent of their income in state and local taxes and the middle 20 percent of Americans paid 9.4 percent. The top 1 percent, meanwhile, pay only 5.4 percent of their income to state and local taxes.

Get Tax Refund in two weeks! File taxes for free using easy online efile screens
IRS announced that taxpayers can begin preparing their returns using the Free File system on Friday, Jan. 16. Available only at IRS.gov, Free File offers two filing options:
• Brand-name software, offered by IRS’ commercial partners to about 100 million individuals and families with incomes of $60,000 or less; or
• Online fillable forms, the electronic version of IRS paper forms available to taxpayers at all income levels and especially useful to people comfortable with filling out their own returns. E-file, when combined with direct deposit, is the fastest way to get a refund. It costs nothing for those who choose Free File.

Walmart gives cash for tax refund approval
Using its in-store tax preparers, the store will give you the cash as soon as you are notified that the IRS has approved your refund—2-3 weeks. Walmart is hoping you will spend the refund in their stores. They may not charge for this convenience but there will be a charge for tax prep. Wal-Mart’s plan is in direct competition to commercial preparers that offer checks as loans against your refund. Check-cashing outlets then offer cash for another fee. This is a very expensive way to force yourself to save. Easier way: http://www.amazon.com/Wealth-Builders-Tool-Kit-wasting/dp/1449913059

GOP Crazies
Boehner sent out tweets to his followers with Taylor Swift GIFs. Responses said:
I know @SpeakerBoehner thinks the Taylor Swift GIF thing is funny, but it makes me feel like the republic is in serious trouble. Boehner wants to remind the U.S. that the initiative would cost "60 billion dollars over 10 years." Obama wants to provide a free community college education to millions of students. At 6 billion a year, this is probably a better idea than spending $25 billion annually maintaining unused or vacant federal properties.[3]. A child born into a poor family has only a 9 percent chance of getting a college degree, but the odds are 54 percent for a child in a high-income family.

Members of Congress have spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars supplying their offices with popcorn machines, plasma televisions, DVD equipment, ionic air fresheners, camcorders, and signature machines -- plus $24,730 leasing a Lexus, $1,434 on a digital camera, and $84,000 on personalized calendars.[21]
6 billion invested in the next generation of tax-paying workers sounds good to me.

Romney blames Obama for inequality—“rich got richer” under Obama?!
Romney will end that???
Mitt Romney stressed the need to sharply reduce poverty in America Friday night during a speech to members of the Republican National Committee. “Under President Obama, the rich have gotten richer, income inequality has gotten worse and there are more people in poverty in American than ever before.”
This is the guy with an elevator for his cars!?! He used to say he does not worry about the 47% who pay no taxes—the poor. Which does he believe?
Poll says 59% want Romney, 50% want Bush, 29% Christie.

Jindal uses Fox slam on Muslims in Europe
GOP candidate Jindal tells London audience that there are whole cities "where non-Muslims simply don't go in," in particular the city of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. The idea of "no-go zones" sparked controversy last week when a Fox “News” commentator raised the prospect of areas in France, Britain, Sweden and Germany where those countries' governments "don't exercise any sovereignty," and instead are run largely by Muslim immigrants.
Paris planned legal action because the city's honour was "prejudiced" by Fox reports that wrongly suggested areas of the city were "no-go zones" that were closed to non-Muslims.
Fox “News” now retracks their made-up story about Muslims.

GOP love affair with Putin over?
Almost-VP-Mrs Palin and Mayor Giuliani were applauding Putin in March 2014. Ben Carson and Pat Buchanan love Putin’s dictatorship. Palin said: "People are looking at Putin as one who wrestles bears and drills for oil. They look at our president as one who wears mom jeans(?) and equivocates and bloviates.” Watch Rudy “Freedom is about authority” comment as he praises Putin as the embodiment of manly leadership. Now, Putin is pushing harder on Russia’s richest citizens to repatriate offshore assets amid a slump in the ruble and the imposition of sanctions by the U.S. and the European Union. Giuliani says that Putin doesn't waste time when he needs a decision: “that is what you call a leader”. True. Dictatorships are more decisive for the dictator and friends.

DEM crazies
Obama wants to tax the wealthy to pay for working family tax credits and education. He would increase tax on their capital gains to the old Reagan levels. Romney on board? Biden is now being shot at. U.S. Secret Service said Sunday that multiple gunshots were fired from a vehicle near the Delaware home of Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday night.

1% wealthy own 48% of all world
The wealthiest 1% will soon own more than the rest of the world's population, according to a study by anti-poverty charity Oxfam. The charity's research shows that the share of the world's wealth owned by the richest 1% increased from 44% in 2009 to 48% last year.

Fidelity caught overcharging clients
Regulators fined Fido $350,000 for overcharging more than 20,000 clients a total of $2.4 million from January 2006 to September 2013. Fidelity inappropriately charged for certain transactions in fee-based accounts in its Institutional Wealth Services group.

Do you get a tax credit for using ObamaCare?
If you received the benefit of advance credit payments, you must file a federal tax return and reconcile the advance credit payments with the actual premium tax credit you are eligible to claim on your return.  You will use IRS Form 8962,Premium Tax Credit to make this comparison and to claim the credit. If your advance credit payments are in excess of the amount of the premium tax credit you are eligible for, based on your actual income, you must repay some or all of the excess when you file your return, subject to certain caps.
If you purchased your coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace, you should receive Form 1095-AHealth Insurance Marketplace Statement from your Marketplace. You should receive this form by early February.
Form 1095-A will provide the information you need to file your taxes, including the name of your insurance company, dates of coverage, amount of monthly insurance premiums for the plan you and other members of your family enrolled in, amount of any advance payments of the premium tax credit for the year, and other information needed need to compute the premium tax credit.
Using tax preparation software is the best and simplest way to file a complete and accurate tax return as it guides individuals and tax preparers through the process and does all the math. Electronic filing options include IRS Free File for taxpayers who qualify, free volunteer assistancecommercial software, and professional assistance.
For more information about the Affordable Care Act and filing your 2014 income tax return, visit IRS.gov/aca.

Instead of building your insurers' reserves, build your own reserves
  1. Create a tax-FREE Wealth Reserve.
  2. Accumulate $1,000,000 with NO taxes--EVER.
  3. Use the IRS tax code just as insurers do.
Most of us don't realize that we can self-insure ourselves. We can save $3,000 every year on our financial services. We can use that $3,000 to build a tax-FREE fund to help protect us from losses. This fund, I call a Wealth Reserve, can cover our deductibles and loss expenses. As this fund grows, it becomes our loss reserve and eventually replaces life insurance, long-term care insurance, and guaranteed annuities when we need them. Most businesses 'Go Naked': they buy protection for large risks only. They avoid coverage for smaller charges.
We build OUR reserves instead of our insurers' reserves and Save.

Quote for the times
Good Catholics don't have to breed "like rabbits," the pope said. Pope Francis discussed contraception and family planning during a mid-flight press conference on board the papal plane while flying home from a five-day trip to the Philippines. He has a plane?

What can we do about this? Why no safety switch?
A 9-month-old northwest Missouri boy is dead after being accidentally shot in the head by his 5-year-old brother. The 5-year-old found a loaded .22 caliber handgun and fired it.

SCAMS           Why are we still paying $700 Billion a year for WWII deployments? That is 27 cents of each dollar in taxes—the largest part of our money—and we aren’t even at war. We could pay off our debts and fix our schools, roads and bridges!
We are paying for 164,253 of our active-duty armed personnel to be in 150 countries around the world. We have about 50,000 in Japan and 50,000 in Germany.
Are we preparing for WWII again? There are 1,208,083[1] armed personnel in the United States. Our taxes pay for about HALF of the WORLD’s military expenditures every year. We have wasted $398.6 billion so far on the F-35 program—they can’t fly safely.
We just can’t afford to pay for everyone else’s defenses anymore.
Japan, Germany and S. Korea can pay for their own defenses.
The War on Terror requires SEALS’ attacks on top terrorists at their homes. Iraq proved converting a nation to Western-style republic doesn’t work.

Tax refund scams at tax time
Any one of these five things is a tell-tale sign of a scam.
The IRS will never:
  • Call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill.
  • Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
  • Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.
  • Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
  • Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.

Patriots cheated for what?
Deflating the balls is against the rules. Now more fans think there will be an * asterisk after every win. Surely the Super bowl will be marred in fans thinking. Referees touch every play but never said anything. Little advantage but huge downside!
The Patriots are guilty of this, and they are guilty of being one of the best teams in football for the past 15 years.

Avoid fees and taxes--boost earnings 25%

Avoid higher fees and taxes—boost earnings 25%
Average mutual fund managers are getting more money and it is coming from you. Fees average 1.44% each year no matter how well or poorly they do. Over time this fee can cost you over 50% of your possible account. Pension funds pay only 0.05% for the same performance. They don’t pay taxes either so why should you, especially in retirement?
Why pay more for less? Reduce Fees and Taxes: http://www.amazon.com/Cut-Taxes-Retirement-ways-less/dp/1499590954

Our “representatives” in Congress and staff owe IRS over $8 million in back taxes
“About 4.9 percent of all House employees, including lawmakers, have an unpaid tax liability. Those 486 employees owe Uncle Sam about $5.8 million. Across the Rotunda, Senate staff and legislators have a 3.2 percent delinquency rate, with 228 employees owning $2.7 million in taxes. The IRS had paid $1 million worth of performance awards to about 1,100 IRS employees with tax-compliance problems.”
Congress writes the laws but can’t seem to abide even for “do-nothing” jobs.

Stock analysts are wrong 60% of the time
“… professional investors are seriously overconfident… They exhibit ‘herding’ behavior. … they are right about 40% of the time—which is worse than pure chance! You are better off NOT paying an advisor and flipping a coin. In fact, the 2014 QAIB study shows that you earned just 3.69% vs the market’s 11.11% over 30 years. The stock market’s 11.11% compounded would have made you a millionaire by now. Try the Buffett way:http://www.amazon.com/Wealth-Tao-Wu-Wei/dp/1499351348/

Survey says workers are investing the Buffett way--not using salespeople
About two-thirds (63%) of workers with 401(k)s are going it alone, managing their own investments. About half of those folks (54%) are unengaged, that is not taking an active role in managing their account, says a data analysis of 13 million participants in Fidelity Investments 401(k) plans across the country.

Collect on your ex-spouse’s Social Security benefits??
If you are at least 62 years old and you are not currently married, you may collect retirement benefits based on an ex’s earnings record. If you have been divorced for at least two years, you can collect benefits on your ex even if they have not yet claimed their retirement benefits. Strange but true.

Why homeowners are switching to cats for protection
Dog bites account for more than a third of the money insurers pay in homeowners' liability claims. Last year, dog bite liabilities in the U.S. cost insurers $483 million, according to the insurance institute and State Farm, the largest insurers of homes. http://www.propertycasualty360.com/2011/07/27/top-7-dangerous-dog-breeds
Make sure your dog is covered by your insurer before the $1 million suit.

1 in 4 of us has $0 nest egg
A recent COUNTRY Financial Security Index® survey sheds light on a more concerning factor. One in four (25 percent) Americans, across all age groups, admit they are not saving at all for retirement, or they are unsure.
Even more alarming are the four in ten (38 percent) of those 40 and older who say they regret decisions they've made with their retirement savings, namely not starting to save early enough (47 percent). Perhaps this is why Americans are not confident that a secure retirement is a viable option. Nearly half (46 percent) say it's not possible for a typical middle-income family to save for a secure retirement. This is two points higher than this time last year and the most to say this since March 2011.

University presidents getting rich on student debt
Student debt is highest at public universities that offer larger-than-average executive compensation, according to a new report from the Institute for Policy Studies.
The report — titled "The One Percent at State U" — found that executive compensation was "closely related" to a number of financial issues in higher education, including student debt and low-wage faculty labor. "Though it has been rising everywhere, average student debt of graduates in the top 25 public universities with the highest executive pay increased 5 percentage points more or 13% faster than the national average from summer 2006 to summer 2012," according to the IPS report./Additionally, IPS reports that they "found that adjunct (part-time) and contingent (temporary) faculty grew much faster than the national average when executive compensation soared at the top 25."

Storm coverage is cheaper now

Long-term care insurance sales off 33%

Social Security and state pensions cut 25%?
Social Security benefits could be cut by 25 percent if Congress does not act soon, Social Security Administration Chief Actuary Stephen Goss warned a Senate panel today. He noted trust fund reserves for disabilityInsurance are expected to be at zero by late 2016. Goss said one-third older Americans have little retirement income outside of SS benefits. The Heritage Foundation said the spousal benefit for Social Security has become outdated because many women have worked long enough to get their own payments. AARP said one proposal -- to improve the health of the Social Security trust fund by reducing the cost-of-living adjustment -- would force many women into poverty. State government employees face possible pension cuts of 20% due to changes in pension funding. Since the financial crash of 2008-2009, 45 states have changed their pensionplans, a new study by the National Association of State Retirement Administrators (NASRA) and the Center for State & Local Government Excellence (SLGE) reports.

JPMorgan chief Jamie Dimon supports pensions for Detroit workers
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said Detroit's bankruptcy likely won't have a lasting effect on Michigan's borrowing costs or the municipal bond industry, even as bondholders cry foul about the city's proposed debt cuts. Dimon also said today that he's very sympathetic to Detroit retirees with $20,000 pensions. The average Detroit civilian retiree pension is about $19,000. Detroit emergency manager Kevyn Orr has proposed paying only 60 cents on the dollar for unfunded pension claims.
Other city and state employees may lose pensions. NJ gov Christie promised to fix former Democratic pension under-funding but last week reneged on his promise. He is keeping his tax cut for the rich however. He got a helicopter to go to son’s games which he is not returning.

Researchers say the survey findings indicate that more and better outreach is needed to educate uninsured people about free or low-cost health insurance through expanded Medicaid programs or subsidies to help them purchase health insurance in the new marketplaces. "They found in Massachusetts, with "RomneyCare," that the individual mandate penalty absolutely motivated a lot of people to purchase insurance," she says. "The Obama administration understandably tried to emphasize the positive, but people need to understand that the mandate is not insignificant -- they could be hit with a big tax bill if they don't buy coverage."

CA seizes Alameda Alliance for Health
"The crisis is not simply a matter of bookkeeping woes," said a court memo by Carol Ventura, deputy director of the state Department of Managed Care, which regulates health plans. Ventura wrote that the Alameda-based insurer could also be committing "serious violations" of state law by not promptly paying back some 280,000 backlogged claims.

Best Annuity Strategy: Income and Growth

The Best Annuity Strategy
^Create a stream of income at low cost
^Keep your nest egg growing to beat inflation
^Build assets for medical emergencies and a legacy
^Use the Warren Buffett retirement strategy
We need a strategy to succeed in retirement too
We want to have enough money to do whatever pleases us and yet we don't know how long we will be able to do those things we love. We can create an inflation-proof income for the rest of our lives without giving up control of our assets.

Is your employer costing you HALF your retirement money?
Employers like ABB are warned—cut 401k fees or pay $13 million to reimburse employee participants. ABB, Inc did not “monitor its plan’s internal costs and paid excessive fees by not negotiating for rebates from investment companies whose funds were offered in the plan.” According to Vanguard’s John Bogle, you can give up 63% of your nest egg when your 401k mutual fund fees are high. Don’t let your employer gamble with your future: http://www.amazon.com/Tune-your-401k-EARN-Tax-FREE/dp/1490591028

Your fees give brokers big raises
Major firms boosted payout for their top managers last year as they place more emphasis on advice division. Gregory Fleming, the president of Morgan Stanley's wealth and investment management units, saw his bonus jump to $4 million, up 62%, according to filings. “And if you're charging fees on average assets over each year, it can provide predictable fee streams over multiple years.” When your account grows, your advisor’s grows even more. Keep what you have earned: http://www.amazon.com/Wealth-Without-Wall-Street-Commissions/dp/1442168137

WARNING Variable annuities can hurt you
Variable annuities could spell double trouble for brokers who eye fat commissions but ignore the rules in place for protecting investors.
Brokers can earn 7 percent or more in commissions on these insurance products, but when they sell them to consumers who aren't a good fit for them, they can face the wrath of regulators as well as investors who try to reclaim their money by filing securities arbitration cases.
At the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Wall Street's industry-funded watchdog, variable annuities follow stocks and mutual funds as the third most common source of complaints. They include one from an elderly investor who will be 102 before he can access the money he locked into his annuity. This warning was sent to your broker:

MetLife brokers caught pushing annuity scheme
Two former brokers for MetLife Securities allegedly engaged in a seven-year scheme to inflate commissions by having customers switch $21 million in annuities, says regulator Finra in a complaint. Use the annuity without a 7% commission:   http://www.amazon.com/Your-FREE-Annuity-Stream-Lifestyle/dp/1497438616

GOP Presidential slate being decided this weekend!
Potential 2016 GOP candidates court mega donor Adelson ($38 Billion) during Vegas weekend. If Adelson likes what he hears at his Republican Jewish Coalition, he might give winner $100 million like last election. Always follow the money.

Supremes decided to let the rich decide election results from now on
If you're rich and want to give money to a lot of political campaigns, the Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that you can. Just like their Citizens United decision, those with money can now have unlimited influence on who becomes President and Congress so they can provide subsidies to their friends. If you are rich, you can pay the candidates for access on your issues. If you have a company, you can let your lobbyist pay the candidates indirectly. Either way, your taxes will go to what they want not what we need. Two Americas.

Koch brothers can now pay for any and all elections—President and Congress
Total spending in the 2012 federal election - for the White House and every open seat in Congress - was $6.3 billion. Each of the Koch Brothers is now worth about $40 billion. They each gained about $6 billion (15%) last year.
How much does our vote count?

ObamaCare saves money for young insured too
Young people with expensive health insurance (employer does not offer coverage) may be saving hundreds a month due to the ObamaCare subsidy for low wages. Subsidies can be over $200 a month, paying almost the total cost of a silver comprehensive plan. Don’t let Exxon take all the subsidies. Use your share to get what you need: http://www.amazon.com/Health-Insurance-ONLY-right-policy/dp/1480125083

Ted Cruz asks his Facebook ‘friends’ about Obamacare, gets an earful
It's probably fair to say that he didn't expect the tsunami of "YES" votes that have shown up on the page among the 47,000 that Facebook says have been posted. Respondents have listed, among other things, their newfound ability to obtain coverage despite preexisting medical conditions, the right of young adults to stay on their parents' policies to age 26, lower premiums and the end of lifetime benefit limits.

Tax overhaul domed before it even gets a hearing—lobbyists kill it
The twist reflects how lobbying in Washington — and the millions of dollars in fees that lobbyists collect — are often about stopping action and preserving the status quo. Whenever Congress considers major changes to the tax code, lobbyists buy “insurance” on both sides of the fight. It also reflects a pivot by lobbyists who had spent months cheering Mr. Camp’s three-year effort to draft this giant package, given that its stated purpose was to lower corporate tax rates and simplify the tax code, and who are now working to make sure that the tax package never becomes law.

Cellphone use causes accidents
The National Safety Council's annual injury and fatality report, "Injury Facts," found that the use of cellphones causes 26% of the nation's car accidents, a modest increase from the previous year. The 2014 edition of the report compares data from 2013 and earlier. Only 5% of cellphone-related crashes occur because the driver is texting. The majority of the accidents involve drivers distracted while talking on handheld or hands-free cellphones. It is the distraction of communication that kills. IL bans hand-held cell use.

Why let people build in unsafe areas?
After Sandy, the Oso landslide in Washington State brings this question again. But things are rarely simple when government power meets property rights. The government has broad authority to regulate safety in decisions about where and how to build, but it can count on trouble when it tries to restrict the right to build. “Often, it ends up in court,” observers say. Perhaps as more expensive cleanups raise all our insurance costs, it may occur to Congress to ask those who live in dangerous areas to pay more for the “right” to live dangerously. Our “Reps” in Washington just did the opposite. They reduced the cost of flood insurance for homeowners living in the new flood zones. This means we will all pay more. Many clients in NJ saw rates soar even though they had no claims from Sandy. So, danger lovers, enjoy the shore and mountains while you can!

“Deficits don’t matter” Dick Cheney told the Treasury Secretary in 2002
As of March 2014, American consumers owed $11.52 trillion in debt, an increase of 1.6% from last year. The average household owes $7,115 on their credit cards and the average indebted household owes $15,252. A 2013 study by the Employee Benefit Research Institute found that nearly half of workers had less than $10,000 saved. http://www.amazon.com/The-Simple-Financial-Life-paycheck/dp/1441499326

Torture helped us find terrorists, Cheney said—also a lie
Torture does not produce good answers according to FBI and actual CIA officers. Americans need good analysis of actions to made good decisions. We aren’t like military regimes that make up the “truth” to do what we want … or are we?

Killing people OK in FL and at auto makers
Apparently, it is OK to kill people in FL if you SAY you FELT threatened or if you are a big company making cars that you know can fail from preventable cause and people are killed. GM is the latest auto maker to hide behind legal BS to avoid responsibility, just like some people in FL. Romney was wrong: Corporations are NOT people. They don’t go to jail, they just go bankrupt, get bailed out and pay a fine.

The St. Petersburg, FL firm agreed to refund or credit 2,304 current and former client accounts a total of $553,624 and to pay a fine of the same amount to settle the commission's allegations, which were announced in Washington on Thursday.

Guaranteed income for life

Retirement Income Annuity: Guaranteed income for life
Never outlive your assets
Never give up control
Assets grow to fight inflation
Inflation-proof your income for the rest of your life without giving up control of your assets. Reduce income taxes. Create your financial future:

Uninsured did not hear about ObamaCare subsidies YET
One-third of uninsured Americans plan to remain uninsured despite the Affordable Care Act's requirement that they obtain health insurance or pay a fine, according to a new Bankrate.com report. AXA Equitable mislead annuity buyers
New York's Department of Financial Services said AXA Equitable Life will pay a $20 million fine under a consent order following changes in its annuities that regulators say were not adequately explained and affected thousands of New Yorkers. AXA changed some investments that limited potential returns without adequate notice. Long-term care insurance premiums rise
John Hancock has asked regulators to raise the prices on its LTC business. If approved, annual premiums on those policies will rise from the current range of $950 to $2,500, to a new range of $1,246 to $3,280. Many, if not all, long-term care insurance firms have asked states to approve rate hikes. Experts say companies are trying to make up for incorrect assumptions made when long-term care insurance policies were created and sold. Beware of what your broker has in your portfolio—MLP are hot BUT …
Because they distribute income to investors, MLPs rely on borrowing and selling shares, or units, to grow. Wall Street banks love MLPs because they earn fees on those transactions, said Kevin Kaiser, an analyst at Stamford, Connecticut-based research company Hedgeye Risk Management LLC.
In the past year, bank fees for MLP deals totaled $890.3 million, led by Barclays Plc with $126.7 million, Citigroup Inc. with $96.7 million, and JPMorgan Chase & Co. with $78.2 million, data compiled by Bloomberg show.
“MLPs are Wall Street’s dream,” Kaiser said in a phone interview. “They’re fee machines.”

IRS says scammers call, demanding payment NOW
"If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and uses threatening language if you don't pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn't the IRS calling," spokesman George said in a statement. The callers may have your SS# and fake IRS badge numbers, in addition to manipulating caller IDs, to appear more legitimate, officials say. Some also follow up with false IRS emails and with phone calls in which they pretend to represent the police or motor vehicles officials, TIGTA said.
The IRS generally contacts taxpayers first by mail or with personal visits from field agents, and it does not accept credit card information by phone, officials said.

SCAMS           Why are we still paying $700 Billion a year for WWII deployments?
We are paying for 164,253 of our active-duty armed personnel to be in 150 countries around the world. We have about 50,000 in Japan and 50,000 in Germany.
Are we preparing for WWII again? There are 1,208,083[1] armed personnel in the United States. Our taxes pay for about HALF of the WORLD’s military expenditures every year.
We just can’t afford to pay for everyone else.
DoD head Hagel proposes budget cut but still pay for F35 plane failures.
Cheney cut 25% of DoD budget starting in 1990 as ‘peace’ dividend. Again?

G.M. chief executive, Mary T. Barra, has called an “unvarnished” investigation into why the company failed for more than a decade to alert regulators and consumers to the Cobalt defect that caused the death of 12 people.
GM knew 2005 Cobalt ignition problem in 2004
1st victim, Amber Rose’s death was apparently the first related to the defect, General Motors knew it had a problem in 2004 soon after the Cobalt replaced the Cavalier. GM made sealed settlement with family so no publicity. There was “at least one incident” in 2004 in which the engine was shut off after the driver “inadvertently contacted the key or steering column,” according to the chronology. 12 have died since. A G.M. engineer proposed redesigning the key head in 2005 but the proposal is ultimately rejected. Lori Queen was in charge of G.M.’s small cars at the time but says she doesn’t remember. Regulators ignore complaints in 2007. Ms. Barra, you don't need an investigation to know why GM never told us: MONEY
Same reason why GM seals the "pay for silence" money settlements to victims.
Same reason corporations call us "consumers."

Corporations are amoral and irresponsible. They never have to admit wrong doing. They never go to jail. They just pay a fine—a cost of doing business—and continue to do what they did. Regulators as well as courts don’t punish non-persons, as corps are called, with jail time. If you have ever been the recipient of their work, you know first hand that they don’t care about what they do and there is very little you can do and no one is going to punish them in any meaningful way.
Did any corporate elite go to jail for the bank mortgage mess that nearly ended Western Civilization?

Insurer caught shorting Katrina victim using lies to win—no jail time
A federal judge has ordered State Farm Fire to pay $750,000 in damages, plus $2.9 million in attorney's fees and expenses, for defrauding the U.S. government on a Hurricane Katrina homeowner's insurance claim. Independent adjusters, the Rigsby sisters, who filed their lawsuit in April 2006, allege the insurance company minimized its losses for wind damage by blaming Katrina's storm surge, covered under the federal government's National Flood Insurance Program. Insurance companies adjust their own wind claims, and NFIP pays them to adjust flood claims.
