Profits up, wages down= disaster?

Corporate profits at 40-year high but worker share at all-time low
Billionaires know income inequality is dangerous—think French guillotine! So Paul Jones wants to shame corporations with a ‘Just Capital’ listing. The wealthy can fix the problem by paying more to employees he thinks. CEOs take 373 times employees pay and so workers have no money for the basic American dream of the 50s. He quotes Adam Smith, that capitalism must have a moral foundation to be sustainable otherwise the rift leads to “the highest degree of disorder.” But corporations are NOT people (despite the Supremes) and don’t live by “community” standards. The largest firms take HALF their profits from the poor of the world so the firm’s world is based on the lowest labor and materials costs on the planet. Their new moral foundation is the 19th century robber barons with no regulations and worldwide markets. The most successful corporations pay little tax by pitting one COUNTRY against another. There is no fair share of profits.
Nearly every major corporation has its share of tax tricks. Apple accomplishes this feat with a two-pronged tax strategy. For domestic sales, the company pays profits as a royalty on a subsidiary it owns in Ireland, which are then routed to a tax haven. For overseas sales, the company uses a second Irish sub, routes the profits through The Netherlands to avoid European taxes, and then sends its profits to its tax haven via the first Irish sub. This sub is called a “disregarded entity”—an affiliate not subject to U.S. income tax. (This strategy is called the “Double Irish with a Dutch Sandwich,” this report says.)

Is your advisor providing the best advice and products?
Most non-fee advisors/brokers/agents are sales people who get paid by selling you. They sell what their firm tells them to sell. Financial services is a very profitable industry and sales people can’t provide the best product from your point of view. Most sales people don’t know what the ‘best’ solution for you is because usually the best for you does not provide the highest revenue for the firm. Proof: The average investor earned just 3.79% while a simple non-advisor index fund earned 11% over time. Dalbar.com QAIB survey.

“Are you paying anything for your retirement plan?”
An AARP survey said 71% of respondents answered NO—It’s FREE. (23% say they do pay for their plan (6% were unsure)). The fact that seven in 10 Americans have been tricked by Wall Street is a scandal, especially because 401(k) fees can take 63% of your nest egg by the time you need it. Brokers/advisors and also employers have lied or misled us on five fees and charges, despite a regulation in 2012. The Perfect Crime! No one reads those book-length disclosures because the lawyers write them so we can’t read them.
Double your nest egg! Drop your 401k fees and live longer.  http://www.amazon.com/Tune-your-401k-EARN-Tax-FREE/dp/1490591028

Warren stumping for student loan refi bill candidate
Elizabeth Warren will fight with GOP over her 2014 bill that would have allowed students to refinance their loans. Approximately 40 million Americans have student loan debt, with the average borrower owing nearly $30,000. Many can’t pay without jobs and the 6-8% finance charges continue to grow. Young voters may feel 8% is unfair since the money costs only 1% for a Fed profit of 7%.
GOP says not fair to rich if miss 7% profit.

Obama visits Alaska to watch ice melt and cover island village—Cruz says not real!
Obama sees tiny village of Kivalina on the shores of the Chukchi Sea, which is being increasingly battered by extreme waves that, as sea ice dwindles, are more easily generated offshore. Sometimes waves can wash across the entire island, which can be terrifying, especially for a place so remote where help is very far away. Kivalina will have to be relocated, at a cost that has been estimated at well over $100 million of our taxes.

H&R Block pays Congress to add 5 pages to tax forms—more fees
It has pushed to expand the Schedule EIC—the form required to claim the credit. The new form would go from one page to five, and it would incorporate most of a 30-question eligibility checklist that only paid preparers, as opposed to self-filers, are currently required to submit. This new form will send more customers to Block to get taxes done.
AARP is asking Congress to cut it out of bill.

Koch Bros: America is "welfare for the rich"

Koch Bros believes America is built on “welfare for the rich”
“I believe that cronyism is nothing more than welfare for the rich and powerful, and should be abolished," Charles Koch wrote. He claims he has “spent decades opposing cronyism and all political favors, including mandates, subsidies and protective tariffs.” Yet the Koch Brothers have relied on $88 million worth of government subsidies (our taxes) for years and pay $ millions for elections to keep subsidies. They oppose cleaning up the environment they profit from while they destroy it!

Are you losing 63% of your retirement earnings to Wall Street?

GOP wants war but …
Robert Gates, who led the CIA under George H.W. Bush before becoming George W. Bush and Barack Obama’s defense secretary, has said bombing Iran could prove a “catastrophe,” and that Iran’s “capacity to wage a series of terror attacks across the Middle East aimed at us and our friends, and dramatically worsen the situation in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon and elsewhere is hard to overestimate.”
Meir Dagan, who led Israel’s external spy service, the Mossad, from 2002 to 2011, has warned that an attack on Iran “would mean regional war, and in that case you would have given Iran the best possible reason to continue the nuclear program.”
In the aftermath of a military strike, he added, “The regional challenge that Israel would face would be impossible.”

Is it time to cancel your PMI?
Drop it when you have paid 20% of your home value as defined in this rule. http://files.consumerfinance.gov/f/201508_cfpb_compliance-bulletin_private-mortgage-insurance-cancellation-and-termination.pdf Since the HPA applies only to residential mortgage loans consummated on or after July 29, 1999, standard 30-year mortgage loans would not have started becoming eligible for final PMI termination under this provision until August 2014. Did your bank reject your mortgage modification too?
New report says banks blame “do not qualify” on customers and customers say “paperwork is lost or misplaced often.” Delaying a borrower’s loan modification request can be profitable for a bank.” Courts agree. Like health insurers, delay, delay delay just wears us out and we quit trying to get what we deserve. Regulators wash hands with bank notes.

America needs to take care of American’s needs FIRST
Can we afford to keep paying $700 Billion a year for WWII deployments? That is 27 cents of each dollar in taxes—the largest part of our money—and we aren’t even at war. We could pay off our debts and fix our schools, roads and bridges! We are paying for 164,253 of our active-duty armed personnel to be in 150 countries around the world. We have about 50,000 in Japan and 50,000 in Germany.
We are spending $8 million per HOUR on our wars in Iraq/Afgan

The War on Terror requires special forces attacks on top terrorists at their homes like Obama’s al-Amr May14 Abu killIraq proved converting a nation to Western-style republic doesn’t work. The troops we trained ran away, left our stuff. Training and more stuff for what? Former Saddam army now ISIS. We are wasting $4 billion a year on Afgan tribal rivalries; paying ransom to Al Qaeda; supporting corruption with our money.

We are building another military base for Japan at Henoko. Air Force Gen. Ronald Fogelman admitted that the Marines “serve no military function there. They don’t need to be in Okinawa to meet any time line in any war plan.”

Are we preparing for WWII again? There are 1,208,083[1] armed personnel in the United States. Our taxes pay for about HALF of the WORLD’s military expenditures every year. We have wasted $398.6 billion so far on the F-35 program—they can’t fly safely.
We just can’t afford to pay for everyone else’s defenses anymore.
Japan, Germany and S. Korea can pay to defend themselves.

We are now training Ukrainians in UkraineMission creep
Afghanistan started the same way—just training, and then guarding trainers, then supply trainers, then supply U.S.-built Stinger antiaircraft missile to the mujahideen, and eventually $200 million for fiscal year 1992 alone. $4 million/hour- $778 billions so far.

Use your refund for your future Wealth Reserve

Your tax refunds could be your future Wealth Reserve
What you do with your refund (average over $3,000) could determine your future financial life. Investing $3,000 a year can accumulate in a tax-FREE Wealth Reserve and provide you with a reserve to pay cash instead of giving up interest and in the future, a comfortable retirement. Use it for deductibles and pay fewer premiums for all contracts too. Consider: $3,000 a year can
compound to $115,000 in 15 years, 215,000 in 20, and $700,000 in 30 years using 10 funds averaging over 11% a year.

Can you do your own taxes online?
Yes, you can complete and file your federal and state return online for as little as $20. You need to know what the W-2 from your employer represents. You can enter bank interest received. You can deduct property taxes and mortgage interest. Most online and 'in box' software accepts the amounts listed on the forms you receive to make it easier. Thus, the number in box 7 on form 1099-R goes into the space "Box 7" on the entry screen. If you read the software instructions, you can file unless you have a special situation or business. Our members have not used the 'box' software and the telephone support so we don't know if that is helpful. If you have used telephone support, send me an email with your experiences. You can find a low cost site at http://www.freefile.irs.gov/ If you use a tax prep service, look for a discount coupon online first.

Long-term care policy premiums going up
Premiums are soaring by 20 to 90 percent for thousands of Minnesotans who carry long-term care insurance, and many older people are struggling to figure out what to do.
"I guess we'll just bite the bullet," said Peter Wyckoff, 67, of Shoreview, a
retired advocate for seniors, who said his annual premium will rise by more
than $2,000. He got a letter recently saying that the annual premium for the
John Hancock policy covering him and his wife, Sue, will rise from $1,816 to
$3,834. About 8 million Americans own long-term policies. The average buyer is
57 and pays $2,100 a year. People are living longer and insurer investments are
doing poorly. Some owners are cutting back from six years to two years of
coverage.

GOP says NO to
$31B “revenue enhancement” At least Reagan saw need!
Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, the top Republican on the Finance Committee, said in a statement that noted the Buffett Rule proposal would have little effect on reducing thefederal budget deficit. “It was designed for no other reason than politics. There is no economic rationale for it.” GOP against millionaires paying 30% like the rest of us seems unfair. Reagan raised taxes “revenue enhancements” when deficit shot up after he cut taxes and nothing happened.

Obama's 2013 budget plan would raise taxes for 27 percent of U.S. households
Obama focuses the tax increases in his 2013 budget on corporations and the top 2 percent of individual taxpayers. 98.4 percent of people earning more than $1 million would see their taxes increase next year by an average of $184,504. The budget would impose restrictions on multinational corporations' ability to defer U.S. taxes on income earned outside the country. Oil and gas companies would lose several breaks.

Boomers not using FREE wellness screenings
A study of 400 pre-Medicare Boomers (age 47 to 64) and 400 older adults (age 65 to 75) with an annual household income of between $25,000 and $75,000, found that less than half (42 percent) take advantage of Medicare's annual wellness visit. Fewer than half (47 percent) of women and only one-third (32 percent) of men used this preventive care service in a one year period. More info at http://www.medicare.gov/navigation/manage-your-health/preventive-services/medicare-physical-exam.aspx?

Women paying more for health insurance
The health insurance company practice of charging women more
than men for the same coverage costs women $1 billion a year. In most states,
it is common for a female non-smoker to be charged more than a male smoker
simply because she is a woman. Fifty-six percent of best-selling plans charge a
40-year-old woman who does not smoke more than a 40-year-old man who does
smoke. In states where maternity coverage is not mandated (all but nine
states), only six percent of health plans available to a 30-year-old woman
provide such coverage. And in 25 states, there is no insurance plan available
on the individual market that covers maternity services. ObamaCare ends this
discrimination. Women in every state and every employer will have equal
cost/benefit profile as men. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j-CneONiGQ&feature=youtu.be

Are ‘living benefits’ right for you?
Insurance policy benefits paid to you while you are still living, rather than paid to a beneficiary or survivor when you die. Also known as accelerated benefits. For example, benefits to pay for long-term care which reduces the death benefit. For annuities, guarantee that you can receive an income for life, regardless of the value of your underlying account. This provision is called a "guaranteed minimum withdrawal benefit" (GMWB). There is another benefit, the "guaranteed minimum accumulation benefit" (GMAB). This guarantees that no matter what the markets have done, your account will grow at a certain percentage rate (usually 5 to 7 percent) for a period of time. Of course, there are fees every year and they are not small. There are better alternatives. See amazon.com/Not-Buy-That-Annuity-Guaranteed/dp/1466494573/

THE FACTS OF FINANCIAL LIFE

Keep YOUR kids out of debt! Explain the FACTS OF LIFE now!

You can help your kids stay out of debt and reach all their goals in life by explaining the FACTS OF FINANCIAL LIFE. You can do this only if you know the answers to these two questions asked of 12th graders. These questions were asked of participants in the JumpStart Coalition on Personal Financial Literacy.

Which of the following tends to have the highest growth over long periods, say 18 years?
a) A checking account.
b) Stocks.
c) A U.S. savings bond.
d) A savings account.

At age 25, Mary began investing $5.56 per day, $2,000 a year. At age 50, Rob started saving $4,000 a year. They now are both age 75. Who has more money saved for retirement?
a) They each have the same amount.
b) Rob, because he saved a bigger amount each year.
c) Mary, because her money grew for a longer time at compound interest.

It is a curious thing that our representatives in Washington have not found on a financial literacy course for our schools after 220 years. According to John Adams:

"All the perplexities, confusion and distress in America arise, not from defects in their Constitution ... not from want of honor or virtue, so much as from the downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit and circulation."

By the way, Mary will have about $6.5 million and Rob will have about $630,000 using a tax-free low-cost broad market index account.
