Which is best for you: T-bills or Treasury bonds?

Which is best for you: T-bills or Treasury bonds?

The current Treasury yield curve is deeply inverted, offering 5.4% for one-year T-bills and just 4.3% for 10-year Treasury bonds. The 10-year rates a year from today are no more likely to be higher than lower than they are today. It is hard to know if the short-term boost is worth missing the longer term high-yield bonds. The trick is to know when to move back into bonds when the market changes. For most long-term investors, this way to pick up a bounce in income may not be worth the disruption in their accounts. Remember market timing like this is impossible 2 times in a row—getting out and getting back in—at the right time. The future is unknown and the safest strategy is to go with the most likely outcome: Buffett’s strategy.

Paying regular monthly fees and charges can cost you big bucks

Are you paying bills on an installment basis? Are eating out/take-home more than once a month? Are you Paying for Streaming Services You Don’t Use? Are you Paying ATM or Checking Account Fees? Are you paying higher interest costs on loans? Are you NOT comparison shopping? Are you paying extra fees to your money manager or broker? If this is your pattern, over time, you are giving away $ thousands that could be earning you more for your future goals. The difference is HUGE: Over your “investing lifetime, that little 2 percent in fees [and charges] will erode 63% of what you would have had.” That could mean have $500,362 instead of $878,570 ($250 per month for 40 years at 6 vs 8%). You will need that extra $378,208 because of inflation costs in 40 years.

5 Simple Steps to an Awesome Retirement

When you’ll retire: The longer you stay in the workforce, the more money you’ll be able to save for retirement through your 401(k) plan and IRAs.

Where you’ll live: If you decide to move somewhere else, you’ll need to consider how much it will cost to live there in terms of housing, food, taxes and transportation costs.

How you’ll live: You will need to consider how you will spend your time—still working or semi-retired with other things (a hobby) to do. In a recent survey of retirees, the number one project for retirement was to find a hobby.

Where will the money come from: savings, investments, SS benefits, part-time work.

What about health care? This may be the most expensive part of living for another 20-30 years without paid coverage. Calculate the costs of health care in retirement at https://www.healthcare.gov/retirees/. You may need to buy a supplement policy so you need to save more, invest smarter, and raise your annual contributions to your 401k and IRAs. Consider maintaining your stock market exposure at 50% in early retirement. Remember, for many, retirement may last 25-30 years and a 100% fixed income portfolio may just not make it. Pay a one-time fee not 1-2% a year for 40-50 years. Work with a fee-only fiduciary adviser to keep more of what your portfolio earns.

Credit score facts

Some folks think you need to carry a balance to have a great score. Lenders want to see that you use credit responsibly, not that you carry a balance. Medical collections with balances of $500 or less should no longer appear on your credit reports. Unfortunately this does not include medical debt on your credit card. If you do not receive help removing incorrect data, file a complaint with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/ complaint or call 855-411-2372. Keep a record of who you talked to. Myth: You need to keep your credit utilization rate (credit you’re using compared with your total credit limit) under 30%. Credit firms are not exact but if you’re using a high percentage of your available credit, or you’re close to maxing out your credit cards, that can have a negative impact on your FICO score. Closing an account with a balance may cause a spike in your score. Carrying a paid-up account can help your score since a zero balance can last up to 10 years. Updating your income doesn’t negatively impact your credit score. You don’t need a ‘perfect’ score of 850 for best credit. Any score above 800 reflects a credit worthiness shared by very, very few people and will not prevent one from obtaining any kind of credit.

Advisors set to hide annuity products under different names

Goldman Sachs analysts have spotted shadows of new types of annuities, or annuity-like products, spawning. GS found that companies are developing a “next generation income solution.” The analysts noted insurers’ hunger for “products that offer investors exposure to potential market upside coupled with downside protection.” This sounds like an annuity—perhaps the registered index-linked annuities or RILA. This variable indexed annuity matches that description. “Some of the most innovative annuities coming out in the next year may look a lot different. Some may not even be called annuities.” No matter the name, insurance company products are usually expensive investments with narrow and limited exposure to market gains. Technically, these products are marketed as growth investments with little or no downside risk because that is what older folks want—high earnings and no losses.

Our Universe is Mind-Blowing

Light is both a particle and a wave depending on how we look at the light.

I don’t think that there is any such thing as a position or a velocity of a particle.

Everything (galaxies to stones) in universe made of subatomic energy ‘vibrations’

A subatomic ‘particle’ is the smallest possible vibration (quantum) of a quantum field.

A ‘particle’ is an event; not an objective thing. This event is set of complex relationships.

Mass–energy equivalence: E=mc^2.  At the smallest level; Everything is moving

Energy into matter: scientists converted light energy directly into matter in one step

In place of atomic lattice, light waves used to create an optical lattice with same geometry

Physics Nobel Prize: “entanglement” 2 particles share info instantly at a distance

Quantum mechanics violates local realism: two objects behave as single system at distance

“It may be that gravity and quantum mechanics are exactly the same thing,” Leonard Susskind

Gravity might induce the collapse of quantum vibrations into 1 quantum state—our world

Strange state of physics that allows energy to flow frictionlessly through a material

Bending light from extreme gravity reveals largest black hole so far

Curved SpaceTime: heavy masses and simultaneously quantum effects become visible

There is no TIME at this level because of force fields come and go in all directions.

Universe expanding: events may not come together like they did before: created our time.

Our planetary system: rarest system: only 1% of all systems with same number of planets

Stars fueled by the self-annihilation of dark matter might have been spotted for the first time by JWST

Inside protons, neutrons, it is the fields of the virtual particles that creates its mass.

Gold made from neutron stars: collisions produce more neutrons:79 protons,118 neutrons

The proton is so complicated science still finds new energy entities/forces every year.

“Empty space is a boiling, bubbling brew of virtual particles that pop in and out of existence in a time scale so short that you can’t even measure them.” Space expanding.

Best Holiday Present for Family

Best Holiday Present: Start Wealth ReserveTM Jan for $1 million later
Every retiree has told me they wish they had started investing earlier in their life because it is TIME and not brilliant money management that provided their best strategy.
The Miracle of Compounding earnings, interest and dividends every year turns $250 a month, $99,000 over time into $1 million. Each $250 is worth $2,525 later.
Many said they did not miss the $250 a month because they had it debited from their account automatically. They said they checked their 401k or IRA account only once a year. It always seemed to go up so they did not worry. Some just did not think about the account at all because they were saving for retirement and it was a long way off.

Will your retirement income last?
This is the number one question we get asked. But no advisor can predict the future so we must rely on the past to consider the probabilities. First, the reason wealthy people keep their serious money in stocks and other investments and not in the bank is because stocks investments have a higher probability of success over time. Second, you can improve your odds by using what we know of stock market returns over time. Third, time invested determines how well you will do with stocks. Bank returns only match inflation. Social Security benefits in retirement are your “bank” returns. You paid into your SS account all your life and your benefits reflect the amount you paid. The average today is $2,212 per month for a couple. As you get older, the amount will increase with inflation. Will your pensions increase and will they continue after you are gone? Can you survive on the total of these two benefits? Let us assume you need another $2,000 a month or $50,000 total before tax to be comfortable. You can generate $25,000 a year from a $500,000 nest egg fairly easily. However $25,000 will be worth less in the future and so you must find a way for your nest egg to keep up with inflation like your SS benefit does. You can’t park your nest egg in the bank at 2%. That’s why pension funds invest in stocks/bonds/other. Test your nest egg for longevity. See how a 50/50 stock/bond mix gives you over 80% chance of success of $2,000 for 30 years even with inflation.  https://retirementplans. vanguard.com/VGApp/pe/pubeducation/calculators/RetirementNestEggCalc.jsf
You can try different portfolios with 5,000 different market scenarios.

Study says pick right hospital for your needs
Choose wisely but we can’t have info to make choice. Study says if you pick poorly you have 3 times greater chance to die. A good heart attack treatment hospital may be very poor for diabetes. Where you live determines your choices to some degree. Research is required before any elective procedure. Unfortunately, the study did not disclose which hospitals had which results. Otherwise no study. It’s like Sears does not tell you which vacuum cleaner pollutes more either. Hospitals that treated a high volume of cases were generally more successful than those that treated a low volume, but there were exceptions. We can use tools like Medicare’s Hospital Compare, which offers general quality information about individual hospitals, but the data are very limited, study head Dr. Rosenberg said. Without ObamaCare, many Trump supporters will need to find a hospital that will at least take them let alone give them the best care for what ails them. We are told to use health care wisely but there is no outcome information. Doctors and hospitals are for-profit and so they hide outcomes and fees like brokers/advisors.
Unlike surgery, you are better off without a financial “doctor”: https://www.amazon.com/Buffett-Bogle-Holy-Bible-Investment/dp/1523693045

Whatever your broker/advisor predicts for 2017 is HALF right
All sales people are positive because they have to be. Wall Street in particular has always been HALF right. Every year they make predictions to give themselves and you a pep talk. Since the start of 2000, the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index has ended in negative territory in five calendar years (2000, 2001, 2002, 2008 and 2015) and has been virtually flat once (in 2011). The S&P 500 fell 38.5% during 2008. It would have been very useful to have received advance warning that stocks were about to plummet, but the Wall Street consensus did not ring out an alarm. On the contrary, the forecast for 2008 was unusually bullish, calling for a rise of 11.1 percent. Wall Street missed the mark by 49% that year. Thank goodness you did not invest in Blackstone’s hedge fund Senfina -- down 24%. So if you look back you see that the forecasters, as a group, are much worse than flipping a coin. If you don’t listen EVERY year, Wall Street is accurate long-term. Stocks provide 10-12% long-term. Use low-cost stock index and beat Wall Street yearly: https://www.amazon.com/Earn-11-11-3-69-Investments-choice/dp/1502412187

FREE tax preparation
Advertising to you is how they pay for free credit score and free tax preparation. https://www.creditkarma.com/ needs your eyes to obtain dollars from sellers of financial services and they give you software to file federal and state taxes at no cost. If you need to file a simple return, this is the cheapest way. The IRS has a topic look up so you can find the answer to your question easier than waiting on the telephone for an operator to answer: https://taxmap.ntis.gov/taxmap/ You can do your federal online FREE using commercial sites through the IRS https://www.irs.gov/uac/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free. These sites charge for a state return. You can also use a local AARP tax aide office. http://www.aarp.org/money/taxes/aarp_taxaide/ AARP does not discriminate by age or income so they can usually take care of most people. Best tip: deduction for IRA contributions and tax credit $2,000 subtracted from tax you owe. Double Pleasure.

Don’t forget your RMD rules if you are over age 70
The IRS requires that you take specific amounts from each retirement account. In some cases, RMD amounts can be added together and the distribution taken as you like from one or more of the accounts. Any type of IRA accounts can be aggregated, which means you could total up your RMDs and take it all from one IRA – one that is a poor performer, perhaps, or one that will help you rebalance an account that might be overweight in equities in your allocation plan. This task becomes easier if you have all your retirement accounts at one firm. Ed Slott, IRA expert, says the IRS will often waive the penalty if you make a mistake but can offer a “reasonable cause” for the error.

American democracy is victim of misinformation from all sides
America has a weak point. Contrasted with a dictatorship, we must have accurate information to make good decisions about almost everything in our society. With the latest propaganda war between the different visions of American life, it becomes harder to maintain our democracy. The internet has flattened the world hierarchy. Now people all over the world who want to change our society can do so quite easily. They don’t need to buy a newspaper or TV outlet in our country like Murdock did. They can just overwhelm our old ways of sifting information for accuracy by creating exciting stories of conspiracy and falsehood. Most people get their “news” from sources not known for accuracy. 75% of us are fooled by false headlines. A survey found that people who cite Facebook as a major source of ‘news’ are more likely to view fake news as true.
Since journalism as accurate reporting of important events has become a profit-center by most organizations, popularity rules. If journalists do not rout out falsehoods and half truths, the propagandists will win every time. Now we learn that the President of the United States with the nuclear codes at hand does not believe those millions of people in the intelligence services who are charged with protecting us. Trump doesn't take the national security briefings because "I'm, like, a smart person."  He has no respect for the facts. He encourages his followers to ignore them too. He encouraged a foreign power to disrupt our elections. He seems to have made up a positive relationship with a proven enemy of democracy. It appears that power has distorted his perception of the world. The great con man has been trumped by his own con. Trump may have been conned by his admiration of the dictatorship of Putin too – flattery is an old KGB trick. We can’t afford for Trump to play this game at the highest level.
America can’t survive on misinformation.

10 MOST unreliable vehicles FIAT named worst
CR asked owners for their experiences of cost, failure severity, safety concerns, or downtime. They found 10 that will test your patience and pocketbook. Sales by hype and not by reputation keep Detroit-Mexico humming. These 10 had the worst scores. Then on the theory you do better by paying more, these 12 vehicles are not holding their value even after 1 year when you try to sell them. For instance, Regal sedan loses 31.2 percent of its original transaction price after 12 months on the road, which amounts to an average net loss of $11,525. It is not on the unreliable list so buy used. Lincoln MKS loses 34.5% of its original value after one year for an average net loss of $16,039.

“Whatever I say is true; it is true because I say it”
President does own “research” on Infowars.com, breitbart.com/, Twitter, cable TV

He thinks Putin is NOT capable of directing hacks of Hillary and elections.
He thinks he can give away our state property to China as sign of strength.
He thinks he won the popular vote. He wasn’t even going to accept the outcome.
He thinks global warming is hoax. He is paying to keep his resort dry from ocean.

Even our generals are scared of his habits.
“Mr. Trump is a potential disaster as commander-in-chief—uninformed, volatile, poor judgment,” says Barry McCaffrey, a retired four-star Army officer. “What he is saying is not based on facts: it’s based on immaturity, bad judgment and ignorance, and I think it’s going to be hard for people in uniform who are thoughtful about this, to vote for him,” adds retired general Merrill McPeak.

He does not check rightwingwatch.org/ factcheck.org/ to verify the information used to rule us. We need China to loan us the money to survive so spiting in the eye is not good.

We are entering the Twilight Zone:
"There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone."

The Don will “replace” ObamaCare immediately with something “terrific” that is “so much better, so much better, so much better.” 20 million people use ObamaCare. So why do more Trumpers sign up for ObamaCare if it will be gone Jan 20? $75 a month? McConnell, Senate, said to start repealing ObamaCare on Jan. 3 even with no replacement in sight, declaring that “surely” the GOP revision will wind up covering Americans better than Obamacare. He did not say how he will cover the 25 million six percent who has none. (GOP has used “voucher” tax credits to say they can cover everyone in America but a voucher is not coverage and 47% of Americans don’t pay tax so tax credits are meaningless to them.) Cut taxes so econ grows: wealthy get most breaks and buy art with windfall
Economy is doing fine without cuts: Obama economy created 178,000 jobs in November, and the unemployment rate fell to 4.6% from 4.9% in October. 10 million new jobs under Obama.

Stop corporations sending profits (UNTAXED) overseas.

Stop government subsidies (socialism) to oil, gas, agribusiness, drug corporations: Exxon as Sec State and GOP lobbyists make promise unlikely. TX cancels funding for Medicaid leaving thousands of poor women without care. Subsidies for oil remain.

Reinstatement of the Glass-Steagall to keep speculation from consumer banks.

Trump kids become national security advisors—get top-secret clearance. Giuliani claims “they can’t work in the government because of the government rule against nepotism.” But they can use the information in Trump’s companies and insider trading. Conflicts of interest range from Wall Street to Philippines and India.

Trump promised not to run businesses but continues as producer of Celebrity Apprentice confirmed for 2017. He can’t live on $400,000 a year so will need to be supported by his sons, wife’s and daughter’s businesses. Day to day they run them anyway and he knows his brand will bet HUGE boost worldwide. Postpones news on how conflicts handled.

Carrier agreed to keep 700 jobs in Indy—not furnaces. Taxpayer incentives given.
Trump’s deal “saves” less than half of the total jobs, for a subsidy from IN. Jobs still go to Mexico.

The Don will NOT show his tax returns or his birth certificate. He does not pay taxes: he claimed he lost money.

Promised to stop tweeting so much. Tweeting almost as much.

Promised to act presidential. Stop attacking individuals. Attacked Carrier union rep.

Propaganda wins: 82% middle-school students could not distinguish between an ad labeled “sponsored content” and a real news story.

“I’m going to bring down drug prices. I don’t like what’s happened with drug prices.”
TIME names The Don ‘person of the year.’

The Don promises more government spending. “Well sometimes you have to prime the pump. So sometimes in order to get the jobs going and the country going.” Congress?

The Don’s budget guy will help Ryan cut our social programs:

Billionaire investor Carl Icahn, special advisor regulation, Icahn will kill "excessive regulation" on U.S. businesses. Icahn and Ross (Commerce) were the investors who saved The Don from embarrassing bankruptcy of the Taj. Payback time.

Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), Management and Budget, signaling Trump’s intent to slash spending and address the deficit. He played a key role in the 2011 showdown between President Obama and House Republicans that ended in the passage of strict budget caps. He has been an advocate for spending cuts, often taking on his own party to push for more aggressive curbs to government spending, sometimes military. A member of the House Freedom Caucus, Mick led the fight to oust Speaker Boehner. Considered a hawk, he will make sure there are no compromises with Dems. He defends the cuts in Spanish.

Debra Wong Yang, chair Securities and Exchange Commission, the former top federal prosecutor for CA for Bush II, and wrote whitewash report on Christie’s involvement in BridgeGate.

Police want gun control.
When everyone has guns; your chance of being killed goes up. Police don’t know who to shoot. They assume everyone has one and shoot first. You and thief have guns. CO schools now allow teachers/administrators to carry guns in the classroom. Kid lesson! Since 2015, police have killed 86 people with realistic looking FAKE guns--suicide?

Why police shoot those who don’t lie down immediately—dementia, mental illness, etc.
Caller said ‘man with gun’ so shot man w/o gun 9 times! Nine!

Trumpers want police to start buying military weapons against civilians again.
