Use new tax bracket to improve your nest egg

Your new tax bracket is 22% down from 25% in 2017
If your total combined income is $100,000, you may get a break come April 2019. That assumes you don’t have property tax over $10,000 and don’t have kids. We are losing the SALT benefit and our personal exemptions of $4,050 each. That may be offset by the $24,000 standard deduction. What can you do with this change? If you are near or in retirement, you could convert IRA money to Roth IRA money. Our rates goes back up in 2026. Convert $10,000 of IRA money, pay an extra $2,200 April 2019, then spend an extra $30,000 tax-FREE in about 10 years from stock funds. So for each year you convert $10,000 and invest it in a stock index fund, you could end up with much more. Plus, you will have reduced your RMD each year because your $10,000’s growth is outside the IRA in a tax-Free account. Bonus: with an extra $1 Trillion debt, our taxes will have to go up soon.

Do you know where your retirement assets are?
Forbes estimates up to 30% of pension accounts may be missing. You can get help finding your money from the Labor Department or nonprofit pension counseling centers funded by the Department of Health and Human Services. Check the databases of bankrupt corporations to track down your retirement plans. First, email the firm if it is still around. Second, ask the investment company who held the 401(k). If your old 401(k) was at Fidelity or Vanguard, your IRA is likely at the same company. Third, try the DOL: https://www.askebsa.dol.gov/AbandonedPlanSearch/ and the https://www.pbgc.gov/workers-retirees. Get help from special regional organizations: http://www.pensionrights.org/find-help. You can try http://www.missingmoney.com/.
I followed a lead from a Google search of the bankruptcy story of my old employer. Turns out they had hired John Hancock to pass out the money as monthly annuity checks.

Will you have enough money in retirement?
Do you plan to live to be age 100? Check your life expectancy here https://www.bankrate.com/calculators/retirement/life-age-expectancy-calculator.aspx
Since your number assumes half the folks will die before and half after this age, shouldn’t you prepare to live longer? Most people don’t want to think or plan for life longer than 1-2 years from now, but in financial terms, we must plan because saving and investing for the future assumes we will have the time to make a change. It is time that allows assets to grow so we have enough money to last as long as we live. Retired clients are concerned they will not be able to afford life. Planning helps deal with the worry yet few want to face death so they don’t plan. First, check your Social Security benefits at https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/estimator.html. You have started your Plan. I show clients what they can do with $100,000 invested in a diversified portfolio for 10, 15 and 20 years. I ask if they can afford NOT to plan.

GOP refuses to protect Russian election-meddling investigation by DOJ
McConnell refuses to put bill on defending investigation to vote. Trump has tweeted he won’t attack DOJ deputy and investigator. GOP understands that Trump has always been truthful and could never be guilty of conspiracy against America, just like Manafort and Flynn. This is a vote of confidence in prez and GOP wants to impede the investigation as much as possible because they assume Trump has something to hide. That is why he fired FBI director Comey and FBI deputies McCabe and Yates. It will be too late to take action once Trump fires Rosenstein and Mueller. But Mueller handed off money laundering, bank fraud, wire fraud, and other charges to another GOP—NY Fed prosecutor. Trump and his mob will not escape by firing DOJ investigators. Pardons may not work in NY.
Our Reps need Mueller report to act against Trump unless he postpones election 2018.

Regulators don’t stop financial services fraud
Trump cuts our protections. Are you a victim of your sales person?
The affinity fraud exploits the trust and friendship that exists in religious communities, senior citizen groups, military service members, ethnic groups and other communities.
Fraudsters ask for an upfront payment in order to perform or execute a deal. fraudsters could use official-sounding e-mail addresses that end in .gov, .mil, or fed.us to fool us.
Binary options contract where the buyer bets on whether an asset's price will rise or fall within a time frame. Check yours: https://www.smartcheck.gov/videos.
High-yield fraud includes an unlicensed individual convincing an investor that an unregistered investment can produce a high-yield with little to no risk.
Internet And Social Media Fraud happens when we are manipulated by criminals.
Microcap fraud is when a low-price stock is heavily promoted to carry out other schemes, like pump-and-dump. Criminals fake buys and media hype then sell leaving us with loss.
IPO: Fraudsters offer investors a false opportunity to buy initial public offering shares before the company goes public.
The pyramid scheme relies on new investors to pay old investors with bogus gains. A multilevel marketing program is where earnings are based on the amount of sales. A pyramid scheme is an illegal practice. Multilevel is just hype unless you are top recruiter.
Prime Bank and Prime World Bank investments do not exist. They are all scam fronts.
Promissory notes: Swindlers recruit independent life insurance agents, who are not licensed to sell securities, to sell the notes for a commission. Hype is high fixed rate.
More scams and frauds on Americans not protected by our government.

You and I will be paying Johnson Controls $150 million tax bill

You and I must pay their taxes; Johnson Controls evades $150 million in taxes
Tyco in Ireland buys Johnson Controls but keeps name and headquarters in Milwaukee. A few papers are shuffled and our taxes or later taxes go up. It is that simple. Our ‘reps’ let it happen. Our average total tax burden is $17,372 (31.5%). We pay income taxes (federal, state and local), sales taxes and payroll taxes (Social Security, Medicare, and Unemployment Insurance). Since there are now thousands of companies leaving America or evading taxes, even getting refunds, we need over 8,800 more taxpayers this year just to cover Johnson Controls’ tax bill. The CEO used money for Ponzi scheme.
Don’t be the only one left paying taxes: http://www.amazon.com/Tax-FREE-Income-000-tax-free/dp/1477472584

Why not increase your tax refund $400-$800?
Study found you can increase your refund by doing these simple things. Even if you don’t want to do your own taxes, you need to test drive the FREE software to make sure your preparer checks for every creditFree File IRS. Tax credits reduce your tax not just reduce you income. Deductions are limited while a credit can eliminate any tax owed. Some even give you a refund when none is due from your income. Look at last year’s return to make sure you have received every form. All banks and brokers/advisors don’t meet the Jan deadline. Try itemizing even if you don’t have a mortgage and property tax deduction. Education and child credits are best. If you make under $53,000, EITC worth $6,000 just by working. Charity clothes/cash deductible. Claim everybody. Pension and SS may be excluded.

File your simple tax return for FREE
Many sites provide FREE federal e-file but charge $13 for state e-filing. The IRS approves these firms: https://www.irs.gov/uac/Free-File:-Do-Your-Federal-Taxes-for-Free. We are on our own: 51 million taxpayers called the IRS with questions in 2015; answer few. "I've tried to call them," says Lisa Ross, "I gave up." After waiting on hold for hours, some taxpayers were forced to give up. Do what you think is right (Google it) and send. Check if your preparer is legit at https://www.irs.gov/Tax-Professionals/Choosing-a-Tax-Professional. For short time, Fed and state returns are FREE for simple returns at https://www.taxact.com/index.asp and at http://www.olt.com/main/oltfree/default.asp

What to do when your investments go down?
You could sell and lock in your loss or you could wait for them to go up. Your emotions say sell now before you lose more. Your mind says wait—where would you invest if you sold? Would you then miss the increases that might come again, like Thursday and Friday last week?  Look at the chart of the past returns. It really depends on when you need to use the money. If you don’t need the money for at least 10 years, 2016 is a dip. If you need all your money next month, then you should not invest—you should buy CDs. Depending on your time frame, you can earn 11% or 3% a year.

Use the tax code to reduce taxes even if you aren’t wealthy
The wealthy use accountants, lawyers and tax shelters to pay a lower rate than we do. They have the money for avoidance strategies. Very profitable corporations receive “subsidies” worth over $63 billions each year. Check your list: mortgage, education, medical, investing, lump-sum, gifts, and more. Most millionaires became and stayed rich by working in their own business. They reinvested profits and deducted every expense. They built their retirement fund from their business success. Even a small business can provide hundreds of tax benefits to offset your salary. If you have no business to reduce taxable income, use a Tax-FREE account with fees under 0.50%. Keep more: “In every time period low-cost beat high-cost.”

Your Investment Edge

Your Investment Edge: A Tax-FREE Growth and Income Account
In these times, you need an Edge to get ahead on investments. Tax-FREE accumulation provides an extra 25% to your investment total. If you earned 15.3% last year, you could have made the equivalent of 23.3%. You never pay taxes—no federal, state, capital gains or dividend taxes.  Start your EDGE today for free.

Why Washington feels free to cut our “entitlements”
Ever wonder how our “representatives” will survive in retirement after all the money they want to take away from hard working Americans. They don’t have to worry since they pay less and receive more than almost any American worker. Plus their health benefits are better than ours. Their retirement package also includes Social Security. Half of them are already millionaires—buying stocks of companies they know will go up because they passed bills making it so. They don't need to worry about benefit cuts. They have $ millions.

Will your long-term care insurance premium go up again?
The cost of a typical U.S. individual long-term care insurance (LTCI) policy increased 20 percent between 2012 and 2013. It increased 16% in 2012. Insurers' LTCI rates vary widely, according to one observer. "For a 55-year-old single policy applicant, the highest-priced policy cost 87 percent more than the comparable lowest-priced policy." There are big variations in benefits also. The insurer may be out of business by the time you need it. Compare alternatives before you commit:

States profiting from our money
Some states are making money from our rightful assets. Even if you try to claim the assets, they may have been sold and are gone.  In one case, a person bought Apple stock in the 1980s from a broker. The broker must turn them over to the state after a certain time. The state sold the shares for pennies and kept the money. The $20,000 in stock is gone. There is no standard rule when brokers, bankers, other fiduciaries give up our money to the state. According to the SEC, most states declare stocks abandoned in 5 years. If you are a long-term investor, you are at risk unless you do something. Institutions have their own rules about abandonment. Check your stock’s location today. I got no answer when I asked the SEC what we could do about this. http://money.cnn.com/2013/03/05/pf/unclaimed-money/index.html

CA turns down Blues increase
Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones announced that the 11.7 percent average rate increase imposed by Blue Shield of California Life and Health Insurance Company is unreasonable.

MN tax filers cautioned about TurboTax
Minnesota Department of Revenue has been advising taxpayers not to use Intuit products, including TurboTax, to file your Minnesota taxes in any form, electronically or on paper. According to the Department of Revenue, Intuit has discovered “multiple issues” with their products affecting 2012 Minnesota tax returns. These problems include errors with property tax refunds, education expenses and political contributions. The Department of Revenue advises taxpayers that these issues could “jeopardize the accuracy of your return or delay your refund.” Tax prep sites listed by the IRS charge nothing for the federal filing. States’ returns can cost $10. http://www.irs.gov/uac/Free-File:-Do-Your-Federal-Taxes-for-Free

IL wants to cap LTCi rate hikes at 15%??!!!
A bill under consideration in the Illinois legislature would cap long-term care insurance (LTCi) rate hikes at 15 percent annually. An increase of 15% a year would double the annual premium in 5 FIVE years. $2,000 at age 55 would mean $4,000 at age 60 and $8,000 by age 65. There are alternatives:http://www.amazon.com/Long-term-Care-Insurance-better-alternatives/dp/147006877X

Kaiser scores top marks from healthy
For the sixth consecutive year, Kaiser Permanente ranked highest in customer satisfaction for health insurance among California policyholders.

Most families overpay for less coverage
Survey of 600 independent agents finds most families insured by mass-market carriers remain vulnerable to severe financial loss and overlook discounts. Families often do not carry enough liability coverage in a variety of forms. Too often, their homes and contents are not adequately protected. Meanwhile, these families also overlook many savings opportunities, such as higher deductibles and package discounts. By taking advantage of these savings opportunities and strengthening coverage against severe loss, families can often achievemore effective protection without a significant increase in premiums. Pay less for more protection using discounts and smart choices: http://www.amazon.com/Homeowners-Insurance-Beware-Coverage-Policy/dp/1480100870

Actual paper stocks and bonds going digital
The trade organization representing hundreds of securities firms, banks and asset managers in the U.S.supports the push for dematerialization. (Mr Spock says that means NO MORE HARD COPY PAPER securities.) Even restricted securities would become entries on a statement. That would be your only proof you own any stock, bond, shares, etc. The change will take years. The required holding time for the destruction of non-transferable securities (bankrupt or insolvent) will be reduced from six to four years. But look what happened to the Apple stock owner above who did not have paper shares.

Why is our wealth going in the wrong direction?
While the median net worth decreased for all age groups, older households lost the most money. Among households headed by someone age 65 or older, median net worth decreased in 2010.  Retired couples were worth a median of $307,728 in 2010. For seniors, most of the net worth is in housing, which they can't eat. $170,128 is the amount the average retiree has to carry them through 30 years of retirement.

How does a parking lot attendant accumulate $500,000 in stocks?
Mr Earl Crawley earns less than $20,000 a year. He has paid off his mortgage and has no debts. He raised a family. He doesn't use stock trading, get-rich-quick schemes or pyramid marketing. He invested small amounts each month, reinvested his dividends and held blue chip stocks like Exxon, Bank America, etc.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XD0svDGyLWU
What can we learn from this guy?

SCAMS           “Deficits don’t matter” GOP grandfather, Dick Cheney, 2002

Regulators stopped a get-rich-quick scheme for a secret “plasma engine” that took $1.4 million from 100 “investors.” Unfortunately doesn’t work. Sounds good, though.
