Wall Street upset with Obama’s sanctions on Putin’s Crimea grab; GOP upset too few

Did your long-term care insurer NOT PAY your claim?
Sometimes you need legal help getting claims paid because insurers’ fine print. Your facility must have a specific license and the appropriate personnel and care. You must have hospitalization confinement first. Insurers deny payment for light housekeeping or errands a caregiver runs for the policyholder. You forgot to pay premium.

USAA has maintained its position as the top-rated insurer for the fourth year in a row, earning a 78% rating and rank of 29th out of 268 companies across 19 industries. More Women Than Men Outliving Their Resources, Surviving In Poverty
"Women tend to live longer, to have not worked in jobs that provided them with enough pensions and/or pay as much, so they don't put as much into the Social Security system," an observer said. "So, they're living longer with fewer resources and that's a problem with a lot of the women we see. They have problems making ends meet."
Men generally have careers that take them through retirement, Martinsen, director of the Area Agency on Aging, said. In their own old age, then, "women often end up, having families living with them or having to access financial support from them, or from the government for medical or housing subsidies," Martinsen said. CR looks at your hospital for quality care
In 2011, 722,000 annual hospital-acquired infections alone killed 75,000 patients, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Wednesday. Combining the raw data yielded a safety score of 0 to 100. Miles Memorial Hospital in tiny Damariscotta, Maine, came out on top with a safety score of 78, while Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland, Mississippi, brought up the rear with an 11. www.ConsumerReports.org,

Long-term care insurance use fluid tests, interviews
Insurers are becoming more comprehensive in their underwriting since claims are showing up at earlier ages. Women are now charged more than men. The blood and urine testing requirement is becoming universal. Some examples of conditions that encompass the highest potential risk of morbidity continue to be: Diabetes; Osteoporosis; Arthritis. Personal interviews may be required too. Consider alternatives: http://www.amazon.com/Long-term-Care-Insurance-Updated-2013/dp/148274001X/

SCAMS           Why are we still paying $700 Billion a year for WWII deployments?
We are paying for 164,253 of our active-duty armed personnel to be in 150 countries around the world. We have about 50,000 in Japan and 50,000 in Germany.
Are we preparing for WWII again? There are 1,208,083[1] armed personnel in the United States. Our taxes pay for about HALF of the WORLD’s military expenditures every year.
We just can’t afford to pay for everyone else’s defenses anymore.

AXA annuity caught misleading clients
A New York regulator alleges that AXA limited the returns of legacy variable annuity clients. AXA contract changes may have lowered the value of certain guaranteed benefits that are eligible for periodic benefit base resets; clients are only eligible for a benefit base reset when his or her account value rises, according to the regulator. If the changes limited returns, clients would lose the benefit base reset.

Obama sticking with 2010 law against tax evasion—banks fighting since 2010
As a new U.S. anti-tax evasion law is poised to take effect on July 1, the Obama administration has rebuffed requests by banking groups to delay implementation.
The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) will require foreign banks, insurers and investment funds to send the IRS information about Americans' offshore accounts worth more than $50,000. Banks failing to comply could effectively be frozen out of U.S. capital markets.
We bailout banks and hedge funds AGAIN
IMF provided 18 BILLION to Ukraine. This amounts to a bail-out for Russian state banks and Western funds accused of propping up the previous regime and for vulture funds that bought Ukrainian debt cheaply for quick gain. Unlike Greece and Cyprus, debtors will receive 100% payback. Tim Ash, from Standard Bank, said: “Ukraine has been the ultimate moral hazard play and it’s cavalier to expect taxpayers to cover this.”

Taxpayers buy $1 million propaganda supporting NJ Christie
Lawyers hired by Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey at public expense issued their findings Thursday on the traffic jams at the George Washington Bridge in September, apparently engineered as a bizarre form of political revenge. To no one’s surprise, Mr. Christie’s lawyers have found his hands to be clean. He was without fault, they declared. This glossy political absolution cost the taxpayers of New Jersey more than $1 million in legal fees. We can now add this expensive whitewash to the other evidence of trouble in Mr. Christie’s administration. The report implies that his direct report Bridget Anne Kelly was distraught over a broken affair at the time of the Bridgegate. It also implies that the Hoboken mayor could not have been rebuked by the Deputy Gov because she was smiling at party.
“Sometimes, people do inexplicably stupid things,” Christie tells Sawyer.
You’re right, Gov.

Free health screenings

Women have free screenings now

Most women won't notice, but as of Aug. 1, insurance companies must cover a range of women's preventive health care services for free. The new benefits are part of the Affordable Care Act, which is rolling out in stages. "Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, nearly 50 million women will now have guaranteed coverage of the preventive health services needed to keep them both physically and fiscally healthy," Rep. Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara, said in a news release.

Services that no longer require a deductible or co-payment include annual well-woman checkups; breast-feeding support; screening and counseling for domestic-partner violence; screening for gestational diabetes; screening for sexually transmitted diseases including HIV; testing for some strains of human papilloma virus; and contraception.

"I think sometimes women are confronted with paying for their birth control or buying groceries." These services are already covered in California under state law but that now insurance companies will have to eliminate deductibles and co-payments. "It's literally nominal because it's already covered," Green said. "Access to preventive services reduces health care costs down the road." http://www.healthcare.gov/law/timeline/index.html

We get less than we put in—negative SS earnings retirement plan!

The AP reports that new retirees will receive less in Social Security benefits than they paid in Social Security taxes. It's the first time since Social Security began that middle-income workers will get back less than they paid in and experts say the problem will worsen in the future. 401k or Roth 401k: Which is better for you?

If your employer offers the Roth 401k, the benefits can be huge—but they come later. Compare paying income tax on $3,000 contributions to your income tax savings of 50,000 on each year you contribute. So if you contribute $3000 this year, you may pay an extra $500 to $750 in taxes with the Roth. However, you will have NO taxes on your $2.1 million in retirement in 40 years. With a regular 401k, you will pay income taxes (whatever the rate is) on ALL your annual income --30% of $50,000 = $15,000.

GOP not sure if Romney would repeal ObamaCare

Romney fears “allowing people to die” under his plan so now he claims he will “embrace health care reform.”

What does that mean for R/R?

Romney/Ryan budget ends fixed-cost Medicare—pay as you go system

Costs shift to individual: Stop paying for medical increases by not funding them.

Five points about R/R plans for our future:

Popular cars that may not make you happy

Consumer Reports these 5 are not what they seem.

Obama election committee sees it this way

“Romney and Ryan share a conviction that our future will be brighter if we simply pass even bigger tax cuts for the wealthy; dramatically shift health care costs from Medicare to seniors, and walk away from our national commitments to education, research and development, and new energy technology,” wrote senior Obama strategist David Axelrod in an email. “So they would be a natural ticket, but it would be ticket to disaster for our economy and the middle class.”

Socialism for the rich

Driven by high commodity prices and crop insurance programs that eliminate risk for farmers, a total of 23 million acres, or 36,000 square miles, of grassland, wetlands and shrublands were converted to agricultural uses between 2008 and 2011. There is a "strong correlation" between crop insurance subsidies and conversion rates, Cook said. The highest rates of land transformation occurred in counties with the highest rates of crop insurance subsidies, he said. Most subsidies go to Agibusiness corporations.

Romney job “creation” program ends in bankruptcy and pollution

The rusty stains on Shirley Carter's home are a permanent reminder of her fight with the local steel mill, just down U.S. Highway 17 near the boat docks. No matter how many cans of industrial-strength acid she went through, the red tint on her property never seemed to go away. In 1998, Carter and her neighbors sued Georgetown Steel, then owned by the company Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney co-founded, Bain Capital. They sought millions in cleanup costs and accused the mill's owners of leaving their historic Southern neighborhood looking like it had been hit by a "chemical bomb."

State officials determined the mill was largely to blame for the pollution. As the lawsuit dragged on for years, the steel mill filed for bankruptcy and the plant ultimately settled with the residents.

In the end, Bain walked away with more than $30 million in profits. Carter got $800.

Goldman Sachs beats government rules again

The U.S. Justice Department's decision not to prosecute Goldman Sachs Group Inc for its subprime mortgage trades resulted from either "weak laws or weak enforcement," the senator who asked for a criminal investigation of the firm said on Friday.

A day after the department announced its decision, Democratic Senator Carl Levin reiterated in a written statement the criticisms he lodged against Goldman beginning more than two years ago. He called the firm's actions "deceptive and immoral." It was never prosecuted for the derivative sales deceptions either.

FREE health checkup?

Is your health provider right for you?
qualitycheck.org/
provides review of health services in your area. Quality rating gives you some
idea of how your provider is servicing customers. This check should be part of
your research on where to get the best care. Members use our Guide to buying health insurance to compare services and benefits. amazon.com/Insiders-Guides-Discount-Financial-Services/dp

How long ago did you have a FREE health checkup?
One of the benefits of exploring life insurance is that the insurer pays for
comprehensive health testing. Blood and urine are tested for a broad range of
issues. Even if you don’t buy insurance, the tests will tell you if there is a
problem. In 1991, NBA All-Star Earvin "Magic" Johnson was diagnosed
with HIV after a routine life insurance examination. Dr. Joan Schaefer, chief
medical officer of Nebraska's Health and Human Services System, learned she was in the early stages of a rare developmental liver disease called congenital hepatic fibrosis due to the lab
results of a simple life insurance medical exam. At the time of the discovery,
she had otherwise believed she was healthy and was in the middle of training
for a marathon. "An examiner may find an abnormal reading on an
electrocardiogram or their blood pressure is extremely high or low and they
realize something has happened and encourage the person to contact a medical
professional saving the applicant from a significant episode or serious medical
condition. This may not be publicly recognized, but it is a reality and it does
uncover significant illnesses that do save peoples lives." In most states,
you can obtain a copy of the results FREE. http://www.lifequotes.com/articles/lifeinsurance/how-a-life-insurance-examination-can-save-your-life/

Have you been cheated by a business?
The Federal Trade Commission, the nation's consumer protection agency, collects complaints about companies, business practices, identity theft, and episodes of violence in the media. FTC is supposed to resolve complaints using the form at www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov

FCC adopted changes to its telemarketing rules that:
-- Require telemarketers to obtain prior written consent before placing robo-calls to consumers,
-- Eliminate the exemption for companies that have an "established business relationship" with consumers,
-- Require telemarketers to provide an automated, interactive opt-out mechanism during each robocall so consumers can immediately tell the telemarketer to stop calling and
-- Strictly limit the number of so-called dead-air calls in which consumers answer phones and hear nothing.
If you want to complain, first step is register your number
on the DO NOT CALL list https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx.
Second, complain if you know the caller’s number or name. https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
Unfortunately, Congress has not banned its own calls so turn off your phone in November.
I give them my warning: “You are being contacted by my attorney because I have not authorized you to call me on this recorded line. The fine is $16,000 per call. Please stay on the line for two minutes so he can trace this call to your home. Have nice day.”

Do you know where your tax refund is?
Check your fed and state refund. http://www.efile.com/tax-refund/where-is-my-refund/
Some states have data online. You need to know when you efiled or mailed them. Some states are set up to receive your state return like your fed from the efile company you used. Some do not have a database yet. If you are having both refunds directly deposited, you can check your bank online or by phone. It takes 1 to 3 weeks depending on when you filed. IRS only runs the refund program on Tuesdays: Efile by 2/22 then your bank will have it Wednesday 2/29. It takes a couple of days to mail it so you will see it when the PO delivers. Members try to limit the refund since there is no point in giving Congress more money than we have to. They will just give it to some ‘worthy’ cause like swine waste management in North Carolina. http://endingspending.com/fixing-the-budget/earmarks/map-2011/#state:NC

Is a Stand-Alone Living Benefits (SALB) account right for you?
This product offers a guaranteed stream of income without purchasing a traditional annuity. The
product acts like an insurance policy on an investment account, with income benefits kicking in if the account is depleted during the insured’s lifetime. You give cash to an investment account connected to an insurer and thus is eligible for coverage by SALB. The SALB provide a 4 percent to 8 percent lifetime income guarantee, calculated over the Retirement Income Base–essentially the account value–in place when the SALB are purchased. Fees associated with SALB range
from .75% to 2%, in addition to advisory fees of the underlying account. This puts SALB in the 3-4% range just like annuities. It is offered only by insurance companies so it really is an variable annuity but not in name. Annuities have a bad rep so they just changed the name. Do you have all your tax documents?
IRS thinks everyone should have all their forms by Feb but many employers and security firms are late sending them. There is no fine so …. Are mini-med plans for you?
Consumer Reports found the mini-med plans offer little coverage. They are the only affordable
policies out there. You will be out of luck should you become seriously ill under mini-med plans, which are also offered to the unemployed via television and Internet ads.
Judith Goss, 48, of Macomb, Mich., said the Cigna plan she gets through her job at the Talbots retail chain was "some type of insurance that would cover something." "I was
aware that it wasn't a great plan, but I wasn't concerned because I wasn't sick," Goss told Consumer Reports. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2011 she
found her policy's annual limits of $1,000 a year for out-patient treatment and $2,000 for hospitalization would not come close to paying the $30,000 hospital bill she was told to expect. She delayed treatment. "It was 3 centimeters when they found it and 9 centimeters when they took it out," Goss said. In 2014 the low-wage workers will be able to obtain comprehensive subsidized healthcare coverage on their own or qualify for Medicaid, Consumer Reports said.

Obama wants to lower corporate tax rate to 28% -- Surprise, GOP not pleased!
Obama would pay for the reduction by eliminating "dozens" of special tax breaks. There are currently more than 130 on the books. Republicans want to lower the corporate rate even further to 25% AND keep the breaks for big corporations like GE and Facebook, which got refunds from us. Most of the largest corporations end up with effective tax rates far below 35%. Indeed, in many cases, they may pay far less than 25%. Most pay ZERO! The administration said a 28% U.S.
corporate tax rate would be in line with the average rate among other advanced economies. Obama would like to discourage companies from moving their assets abroad and parking their profits there for years on end. Global corporations that pay tax to other countries rely on US military if their assets are attacked, employees kidnapped, need protection from terrorists, etc, etc. However, they don't pay for those services. WORSE: GE, Facebook others get refunds from us. http://money.cnn.com/2011/01/14/news/economy/corporate_tax_reform/index.htm?source=yahoo_hosted

Congress gives itself fat pension checks – cuts military support
Members of Congress will get more lucrative pensions than new federal employees under a little-known provision in the bill that extends payroll tax relief and unemployment insurance. Congress hides better pension in a tax cut that can’t fail to pass. And everyone else gets to pay for it. They have no shame. Why would they want to let their voters know?
