Facts are hard things: The “failing” Affordable Care Act is NOT failing, according to HHS and Trumper Tom Price. What may be more embarrassing to the hardliners pushing repeal is that it comes from Trump’s own agency. Secretary Tom Price has been the source of anti-ACA propaganda. But in an annual report about the, Health and Human Services established that the key programs are “working as intended,” protecting insurers from unexpectedly large risks and moderating premiums for consumers. For those of us who have relatives on the exchanges, ObamaCare is a godsend. Unlike millionaire Congress people, (some with $445 millions) our family members with pre-existing or long-term disabilities could NOT get better without it. As our moderate reps have said, Obama’s ACA needs some repair. But so did Medicare when it began and look at it now. Most participants love it but there are always complainers. America is ready for universal health care. Just like car and house insurance, when you need it you won’t complain about paying for someone else’s house fire every year. Up to now, GOP and DEM proposed lowering premiums not by reining in costs, but by allowing insurers to sell ‘junk’. This leaves us on the hook when we really need comprehensive coverage. Cruz would not buy ‘junk’ policy for his family but OK for us? Trump wants to spend $ millions on UK baby but not one cent on Medicaid baby. Subsidies can make up the difference in costs based on age and income. We can buy drugs overseas for 60% less and in a free market we should. Bush was wrong to create price controls. No need to cut taxes for the rich—they are getting richer every day. Instead they pay taxes because “taxes are the cost of society.” For regions where there are few insurers to offer options, Medicare can be provided. GOP mandate needs to be sold to young like any new program. Medicare can negotiate the price of testing and screening in each region. Right now, gouging is common practice. Think EpiPen and hip replacement. Life Liberty Pursuit of Happiness is the guarantee. Can’t have them without health care.
